German Hip Hop has always been a difficult thing. It had a good start in the 80s with the band Advanced Chemistry, but then came some unbearable pop rappers like Fanta 4 and Fettes Brot, which made Hip Hop popular among a big audience. Several years later, some guys from Berlin tried doing a German version of Gangsta Rap, which was rather embarrassing in most cases. Apart from that, there are only very few interesting and outstanding artists, like Casper and K.I.Z.
In our interview with Maxim from K.I.Z. we talked about music by Deichkind, Casper, Solomund and Lana Del Rey. More after the jump.
Deichkind – Leider geil
You think something is awesome. But even though you are criticizing capitalism as a hobby, you are still a philister and a Christian, so you know that everything that is awesome is evil. That is why it is “leider geil” (unfortunately awesome). God made it awesome and forbidden at the same time, the sadist. I don’t care. God is dead, and awesome is awesome.
Casper – So perfekt
This is a story about a man who is falling from the 50th floor of a skyscraper. While he is falling, he repeats the same phrase over and over again to calm himself down: “Everything will be perfect! Everything! Everything! Everything will be perfect! Everything! Everything! So perfect! Sooooooo perfect!” But what is really important is not the fall, it is the money that you can make with lyrics full of cliches.
Solomun – Hypnotize
bummdömdelömdimmbummdömdelömdimm, bummbummbumm, bmmsbmssbmss, tsstsstsstss? piutssp, schhhhhhschhhhhtsstsstsstss,
bummdömdelömdimmbummdömdelömdimm!!!!!
Lana del Rey – Born to die
I think it is great that she had her lips done. That has given her a very distinct pronunciation. It is somehow like 50cent after he got shot in the mouth. His career developed in a quite positive way after that as well.
What I like about this song is that she realizes that her romance with this hot tattooed guy is “born to die”. Now she is back with me again, here in front of the TV in our separate beds. You just should not reach for the grapes when they are hanging too high.
K.I.Z. – Was willst du machen
Welcome to the ghetto safari. Four young men that have never set a foot in the places they sing about describe the typical German Turkish guy to us. “No, that is not racism, that is irony”, croaks the German Feuilleton, which is happy to have a soundtrack for their own subliminal racism. I am pretty sure Sarrazin has K.I.Z. on his iPod.
