In May, the indie pop band Still Flyin from San Francisco released their second album On A Bedroom Wall . The first thing I thought of when I heard it where The Shins and Pavement, which actually are two of my favourite bands. We also talked about these bands when I interviewed Still Flyin. Additionally, I have asked them about Nicolas Jaar and Rammstein. Check out the interview after the jump.
The Shins – Simple Song
This is the opposite of a simple song. It’s very complicated and I feel like I’ve been lied to. Here is a simple song that I like…
Pavement – Range Life
Pavement – Range Life by pluxy
Some of my favorite lyrics ever. When I was a kid I thought the Smashing Pumpkins/Stone Temple Pilots verse was totally hilarious. The whole theme of teen suburban life in the summer is something that screamed my life at the time. A friend gave me this album for my birthday in May and school let out a few weeks later. My friends and I were soon playing this song in my attic. School’s out. What did you expect?
Nicolas Jaar – Stay in Love
Now THIS is a simple song! I love really repetitive stuff like this. All the subtle changes keep it interesting… Hahaha Love Potion #9! I am loving this! Very intriguing song. It could probably stand to be about twenty minutes longer.
Rammstein – Engel
Sounds like a good song for Die Hard 7. The male vocals are great. I saw a YouTube video recently of some kids covering a Rammstein song; it featured a 4-year-old that was a mighty drummer.
Rammstein has always held a special place in my heart. I went to one year of high school at Ramstein and before that I went to middle school in Landstuhl, which are small towns near Kaiserslautern. When Rammstein sings to me it sounds so gentle and soothing. They can hide behind their tough image, but I know the true Rammstein. I LIVED IT.
Still Flyin – Travelin Man
Ooh, I know this song! This is our first 100% serious song. Usually our songs are some combination of humor and seriousness and often times only humor. We toured a lot for our first album, and while touring is one of my favorite things to do, I also miss my wife when I’m gone. This song is about that – the push and pull between wanderlust and domesticity. It’s one of those tunes that really starts to dig into you after you’ve heard it about thirty times. You’ve got some work to do.
