When Apparat’s lead singer Sascha Ring announced at a concert in Berghain in November 2012 that it would be the band’s final show, many tears were shed in the audience. But it seems that it was all a misunderstanding: It was just the final show of the Devil’s Walk tour. So fortunately, Berlin’s best band is not splitting up. In contrary, Apparat announced shows for 2013 and just released a new album called Krieg & Frieden (Music for theatre). Get more information after the jump.
The album consists of music that Apparat composed for a theatre version of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. The premiere of the play took place at Ruhrfestpielen in Recklinghausen in May 2012, Sascha Ring and his band played live at every performance. On Krieg & Frieden, Apparat continues what they established on the previous album The Devil’s Walk: The melancholic, romantic chamber music sound that can only be compared to Radiohead.
In comparison to its predecessor, the new album is more calm, experimental and atmospheric. Also, it is mostly instrumental, only two tracks feature vocals. Even though Krieg & Frieden is not an overwhelming masterpiece as The Devil’s Walk, it still surpasses most of the music produced today. Check out the stream of the full album is available on Soundcloud.
By the way: The theatre play Krieg und Frieden by director Sebastian Hartmann will be shown in Berlin at Theatertreffen in May 2013, with Apparat performing live.
