Spirit of Istanbul – The Best of Turkey

Issever Bahri

Beside Berlin, I think Istanbul is one of the most culturally thriving and interesting big cities in Europe. Especially since we have such a huge Turkish community here in Berlin the Turkish culture is something very close to us. To a significant degree we have integrated it into our lives here.

The Spirit of Instanbul Festival is a big event happening on November 2nd 2013 here in Berlin. Starting in the late afternoon and going on until midnight Yeni Raki will turn the Arena at the Spree into one of the most modern Bazaars outside of the Orient celebrating the work of local Turkish individuals and those from Turkey. There will be designers with Turkish origins such as Issever Bahri and Ina Seifert, local Turkish-run delicacy shops such as Knofi and Chocolateria Sünde, a tea bar by Samova, a raki bar by Yeni Raki, mordern dance and music performances and so much more. Find out more about it after the jump.

Issever Bahri

The Berlin-based label Issever Bahri had one of the most talked about presentations of the last Fashion Week in July. The designer duo behind it has Turkish roots which makes them the perfect headliners for the festival. They will showcase and sell their designs at The Spirit of Istanbul.

Ina Seifart

Ina Seifart is another German label with Turkish roots. Her jewellery is unique and sought-after. She normally sells at high-end boutiques such as Andreas Murkudis. For The Spirit of Istanbul she will now host a both in this modern Bazaar. There are quite a few more designers presented here as well.

There is going to be a variety of modern and traditional Turkish street food at the Bazaar as well. Prepare for some delicious treats and even dinner meals. The booths will be hosted by local Turkish shops and market sellers such as the popular Knofi Deli.

Chocolateria Sünde

The Chocolateria Sünde is one of the cutest cafes in Kreuzberg located at Oranienstraße. They sell not only delicious hot choco but also a variety of hand-made chocolates and cakes. They will also host a booth at The Spirit of Istanbul.

Samova Teas

Of course there is also going to be drinks! First of all by the initiator of the festival: Yeni Raki – a typical Turkish spirit made of grapes and anis. There is also going to be the teas and drinks by Samova.

I hope I could give you a little bit taste of Turkey with this preview. The Spirit of Istanbul festival is going to be open from 17-24h on November 2nd 2013 and takes place at Arena, Eichenstr. 4 in Berlin-Treptow. Join the event and learn more about the party program of the festival here. Enjoy!
