5 Hot Activities for Cold Berlin Nights

Probably the most dreaded characteristic of Berlin is its continental climate – especially the ruthless winters. It feels like many expats would happily switch from a full-time residency to summer guest appearances – but as avowed Berliners, we have a bunch of strategies to cope with the cold and make sure you enjoy our beautiful Hauptstadt all year round. Read on to find out what keeps us warm and entertained!

Swim at Stadtbad Oderberger

The swimming pool at the Stadtbad Oderberger served as an event venue for a a few (we also hosted the SKYY SWAP MARKET there for several years), but it recently returned to its original use as part of a new hotel. On average, it’s open to public on 5 days per week until 22h – click here to find out when exactly.  It’s a beautiful historic hall in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg – and a chance to show off your bikini bod during winter without having to spend 3 hours in line in front of KitKat.

Poetry at Whisky&Word

The open mikes for poetry and prose are a great way to brighten up and add some magic to your gloomy winter evening. Spoken word events like Whisky & Words happen regularly and provide a fantastic chance to connect with other creatives that are just as enthusiastic about literature as you might be.

Tango Dancing

I recently realized that Berlin is the Mecca not only for the lovers of Techno, Sterni and drag parties, but apparently also… tango! This Argentinian dance is super popular around here, with lots of schools and spaces such as the Tangoloft in Wedding and more milongas happening every week than you would imagine! Everyone knows how tango can get very hot and sensual – sounds like the perfect antidote for the minus temperatures.

Roller Skate Disco at SO36

Happening roughly once or twice per month, this hilarious party is like a time-machine that will take you back right into the disco universe of the 80s. Dust off your roller-skates or get used ones at Mauerpark and off you go – I can’t quite imagine the devastating effect wearing these might have combined with alcohol consumption but it sure does warm you up!

Watch Porn at Lick&Listen

Of course, one obvious response to unfavorable weather would be to curl up under your blanket and watch some porn, but being a part of the sociable gang that Berliners are, why not just go ahead and watch porn together? You can also choose the high culture version organized by the Fecunda Lab – enjoying a selection of silent ethical-porn films accompanied by live music.
