Do you have a favorite apocalypse? Imagine you could choose between, team atomic war, team climate-catastrophe or team asteroid? Or would you then rather love a real biblical Armageddon-thingy with seven plagues and at least an obese woman pretending to be a dark messiah coming for us all?
The newest dance performance light spectacle by Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends called no apocalypse not now at HAU 1 is bringing all the weirdest apocalypses to the stage you can imagine. From devastating no man’s land to a world who is formed by black bubbles floating around, the performance collective was able to create with a few simple ingredients a dark, humorous and enigmatic powerplay of images for the audience.

After every scene, you are basically convinced that you saw the highlight of the show just be yet again surprised by a new unexpected twist. The strong core of the piece are the four incredible performers who all contributed with their own magic to the world of shadows and light happening on stage.
Without any spoken word the piece comes to live with the funny expressions of Tatiana Saphir, the strong singing of Jessica Gadani, the undisputed boldness of Sarah Thom and the elegance and captivating energy of Cassie Augusta Jørgensen. I could have watched the four of them play forever. A world with a real apocalypse is not a fun place to be. And with all the crises happening right now in the real world, to watch the apocalypse on stage seems a bit out of place sometimes. But the way Ashbel and friends represent the old myth of Apocalypse has something refreshingly comforting and mind-blowing at the same time.

Also, we need this kind of simple yet strong theater art to remind us of what creativity gave us humans. The power to create a world of shadows or a world of light just by changing one small thing in the equation of life. Don’t miss the next two shows happening at Hau 1. I promise you won’t regret it.
