Advert.

When I went to Berlin alone for the first time 24 years ago, one of the first places I visited was Potsdamer Platz. At that time I was insanely impressed by the architecture, the stores, all the cinemas, theaters, and restaurants. I felt as if I had been transported to the future. What they came up with for this historic place back then absolutely resonated with me.

This coming weekend, September 15-16, Potsdamer Platz is now celebrating its 25th anniversary with a big, free festival. A lot has happened in this quarter of a century. A whole neighborhood has developed around it, and the square as a whole is even busier and more active than when I first visited. In particular, the restructuring of the former Potsdamer Platz Arkaden into The Playce is probably the most striking recent change. It is the first mall in Berlin to undergo a major overhaul and attract visitors with a new concept.

There’s plenty to discover at Potsdamer Platz this weekend for the 25th-anniversary festivities. The two-day program has something for everyone: On a large stage, there is music from young artists such as Aisha Vibes, Paula Carolina, Megaloh, Vanessa Mai, Novine, Marvin Brooks, the Berlin Pub Choir, and many more.

For the inquisitive among you, there are guided tours, on the topic of history, architecture, and art at Potsdamer Platz, for which you can register for free. If you like it more interactive, you might be interested in the workshops for festival makeup, headpieces, earrings, and nail art. There are even a few wellbeing and sports activities.

Families with children can rejoice because, for the little ones, there is also incredibly much on offer. There is a whole play street with many activities for kids. These include various craft workshops, live painting, ping pong, basketball, and a circus show by Cabuwazi on Sunday.

Of course, the culinary needs will also be catered for. At the food market, which is spread over the entire Potsdamer Platz area, there are offers from the restaurants, the new food market Manifesto, as well as some restaurateurs on four wheels. So look forward to the food truck Sir Lunch A Lot with street food and DJ sets, the mobile café Pajas, Breton crêpes from the Crêpes Maman truck, the tacos from Las Chilangas from Markthalle 9, the delicious soft-bake cookies from OHH! Cookies, and much much more.

If you’ve worked up an appetite now, we cordially invite you to celebrate the 25th anniversary with us on September 15 and 16 at Potsdamer Platz! Enjoy!
