iHeartBerlin.de goes Boheme Sauvage

Boheme Sauvage - Potsdam

If nostalgia were a party it would certainly be called Boheme Sauvage. We were invited to join the famous and exclusive event and were more then impressed. At the Belvedere Palace in Potsdam we had the pleasure to enjoy a glamorous night out that couldn’t have been more unique. The Venetians would go green with envy. More impressions and a chance to win tickets for the next Boheme Sauvage night after the jump.

A Decade of iHeartBerlin & 2 People who could not be more different

A Decade of iHeartBerlin & 2 People who could not be more different

photo: Katja Hentschel

10 Years of iHeartBerlin! How did we make it so far? I wonder sometimes when I think back to all the crazy shit that happened in the last 10 years. And especially when I look at Frank and me who were two very different people back then. Of course, everybody was a bit different 10 years ago… but believe me… we were unrecognizably different.

Not to show you how much we changed, but rather to show how it does not matter how old you are and how cool you look to make amazing projects happen, I will guide you back to the dawns of time and when Frank and I were still two little puppies playing with bits and bites and with no idea whatsoever that we will stick around so long with each other delivering to you the best stories about our beloved city.

Horse Balloons and Fancy Hats – A Sunday at Hoppegarten

Horse Balloons and Fancy Hats – A Sunday at Hoppegarten

As Vice put it in a recent feature: Sunday at Hoppegarten is the new Berghain. It’s a hilarious, yet unfair comparisson, but I admit these where my thoughts too when I was at the horse race course on Sunday thinking how much more enjoyable my time there was than it would be in the cement garden of the techno club.

I was invited by Warsteiner who is one of the main supporters of the Hoppegarten horse race course to join them for the Big Price of Berlin which is the biggest award for horse races in Germany. I didn’t really know how to imagine it would be. I imagined it like a day-time version of Boheme Sauvage. And actually the reality was not too far away from it. We had such a beautiful afternoon there that we remained in a daze of wonder for days to come.

It was as nostalgic as you imagine it: A glamorous picknick in the park, pretty ladies with fancy hats, dandy gentlemen, horse-shaped balloons for the kids (I bought one too though). It is a really picturesque setting at Hoppegarten. And I haven’t even started with the horses yet. Hot Like Mexico, Sugarbabe, Lucky Speed, Berlin Berlin. Talking about popculture references for horse names here. It’s really as much of an elegant sport as it was promissed to us. In 8 races spread out over the afternoon all these horses with funny names and fancy manes gallopped over the meticulously groomed lawn for the main price. Three year old stallion Sirius turned out to be the winner of the Big Price of Berlin, unfortunately none of us made a bet on him due to lack of general horse race knowledge. But it was fun nontheless and I would definately come back here for another sunny afternoon at this beautiful place full of balloons, horses and hats. Enjoy my impressions after the jump.

A Visit to the Hoppegarten Horse Race Course

A Visit to the Hoppegarten Horse Race Course

Berlin is known to be a modern metropolis and a thriving hub for contemporary culture. It’s known for it’s progressive nightlife, pulsating art scene and liberal lifestyle. But the city does have a different side to it as well, one that cherrishes traditions and past decades. Just think of the Golden 20s-themed parties such as Boheme Sauvage or the historic ballet and operas at Deutsche Oper. Berlin is certainly a place that let’s you indulge in the past.

One of those many opportunities to enjoy some old traditions of Berlin is the horse racing course Hoppegarten. Next week on Sunday the 124. Big Price of Berlin is taking place there and that is the most important and  prestigeous horse race award in Germany. Of course an event like that is not simply about the race itself, there is also the betting for the winning horse and the glamorous style of the guests.

Together with Warsteiner who is the exclusive partner of the horse race course Hoppegarten we are giving away a pair of tickets for the loge at the finish line and a few more goodies. Find out how to win after the jump.

The 10 best Bike Routes in Berlin

The 10 best Bike Routes in Berlin

photo: Sandra Semburg

Germany is a biking nation. Probably everyone you would randomly ask on the street has a bunch of personal and emotional stories to tell you connected with their bikes. Regardless of the weather or personal fitness biking through the city is the most  beloved way of transportation in Berlin. But besides practical reasons, biking can be quite some fun if you know the good streets and bike lanes and avoid busy and narrow boardwalks. What brings biking pleasure to a new level? Having a great bike which is adapted to the needs of the urban dweller. We gathered some shops where you can finde a good bike for your needs in this article. When you found the right bike I would suggest you to use it not only in the city but also to get out of the city.  I collected some great biking spots and routes for you to explore the city on your beloved bike. Since I am not a bike-expert I asked my friends who are doing Komoot to help me out a little bit. Komoot is a great bike app that helps you create the perfect bike tour for your needs. This is how I could put together some really great places to have your summer bike adventure. read more…

This weekend it is all about barbeque and beer. But since we are in Berlin, please call it Grillen and I just wanted to add that you’ll be warmly welcomed if you bring along a solid steak, we Germans don’t eat Wurst all day. Really!

Oh, I can’t decide if the Foxy Boxers or Villa wins this weekend’s price for the funniest flyer… The parties after the jump.

Fete Fatale

On Wednesday the makers of Boheme Sauvage celebrated the premiere of their brand new series of Burlesque parties at Bassy club called La Fete Fatale. Of course we didn’t want to miss this extravagant event. And it really was a great success. For their first party they invited a whole bunch of burlesque acts that gave extraordinary shows and performances. Look after the jump for more photos of the party and the shows.

The Ultimate Easter Party Guide

Miss Kittin and The Hacker

Miss Kittin & The Hacker

While our party expert Suz is enjoying a sunny vacation on a far away island the rest of the iHeartBerlin.de team is preparing for a massive party weekend. While you will have to search for your Easter eggs on your own, this little event guide will be of assistance to find the right party.

Celebrations will start pretty early today around 16h with ZMF in exile at Lutz Friedrich at Mauerpark. The afternoon begins with a family friendly program with food, bonfire and easter egg searching. Around 18h the DJs will start playing from dusk till down.

We’ve seen them last year at Melt! and now they’re back with their new album Two: Miss Kittin & The Hacker. With their pulsating synthie-pop hymns and shouting vocals they will set the Lido on fire at 22h.

More events for today and the rest of the weekend as well as the flyers after the jump.
