Distorted Barbie Power Fashion with Franziska Michael

Talented young Designer Franziska Michael knows how to create distorted beauty. From dark fairytales to tennis yard love we are in love with her abstract fashion creations from the beginning of her short but powerful career. Guest editor and photographer Alicia Kassebohm visited her show for us and was more than impressed with the distorted barbie creations.

“Team FM”, Dogukan calls to the models after going through the runway order with them. Surely one quickly realizes that this team interacts in a positive and fun way. Franziska Michael knows how to work contrasts and how to present an exciting show. The current collection embraces experimentation and is inspired by sportive 90s style and Science Fiction. It was not without reason that there was a rollergame pinball in the middle of the studio.

When it comes to the materials, there are skilful combinations of mesh, varnish, leather, neoprene, latex body suits and even hair ﬁxed on sweaters – all worn to sneakers, belly tops, patterned leggings or wide cut trousers and jackets. Distorted barbie heads combined with blue lips or a net gym bag with ice cream cones made out of plastic.

All in all, the collection is modern , extraordinary and comes with a wink of the eye – some already said it’s the best one of Franziska Michael. More photos after the jump.

iHeartBerlin favorite and Designer Scouts alumn Franzsika Michael is headlining an interesting fashion event that is going to happen on Saturday afternoon here in Berlin with a fashion show of her new Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The guys from Bloggers Meltingpot have put together a big program of shows, presentations and performances with 10 designers and even more artists, performers and creatives. But the Live Networking for Fashion & Art event is not only about the shows, as the name suggests it’s a networking platform for creatives and professionals of the scene to interact with each other and form new collaborations. Neon Tennis for Franziska Michael

This season’s award for best fashion studio presentation definitely goes to Berlin-based designer Franziska Michael and her SS 2014 collection. On Wednesday, the young talented and fashion-forward designer surprised us with a tennis-themed presentation dominated by the themes contrast and neon – an unexpected yet interesting combination. The 90s inspired setting recalled a tennis court, with beautiful models in blazers, matching shorts, mini skirts, and bathing suits in neon colours, black and brown, refined with ball prints and tennis screen caps. Simple, sporty and cool at the same time. All my favourite looks after the jump!

Franziska Michael’s Fairy Tale

Being part of Berlin Fashion Week is by far more than just drinking champagne and watching fashion shows. I became especially aware of the required strength and discipline when I tried to attend a whole string of events in only two days, including a look behind the scenes. However, young designer Franziska Michael succeeded in creating a great kind of retreat that every other journalist and photographer around me was happy to cherrish.

The guests of her presentation entered the studio and where surprised by an eloborate set-up centering around a gate covered in roses. Between fog and hay stacks the models were positioned in a gloomy, yet romantic scenery. The designer obviously drew her inspiration from nature, which also reflects in her choice of colors: apricot, light yellow, khaki, rose and black. The cuts are clear and lineal, perfected with different materials and psychedelic patterns, that have also been prominent in her previous collections. The contrasts she created are greatly unexpected. The gelled hair parted in the middle paired with modern patterns, the quilted cycling shorts combined with black socks – she definately knows how to make a statement. Not in the realm of the big four yet (New York, Paris, Mailand, London), but has made a name of itself for crazy, edgy and experimental fashion designs. Designer Scouts open the SKYY VODKA SWAP SEASON 2013

Last Friday my partner Gina and I hosted another one of our Designer Scouts events, for the second time now during the Press Days. With the special event we launched this year’s collaboration with long-term partner SKYY VODKA. It’s now the fourth year that we will be hosting the SKYY VODKA SWAP MARKET happening in late summer. But this year the swapping will not only take place during one event in Berlin, it will happen throughout the whole year all over Germany. SKYY VODKA teamed up with numerous magazines to raffle off many small private swaps taking place in the homes of the lucky winners who will not only get all the equipment they need for the swap party, but also ingredients for delicious cocktails and amazing designer pieces.

Just like the big SKYY VODKA SWAP MARKET the private swaps will also get designer hosts, for this season we’ve selected the sustainable labels Ica Watermelon and Anne Gorke and the avant-garde labels Franziska Michael and Julia Heuse. Those four designer hosts were introduced at the event on Friday with three stunning fashion presentations and one amazing fashion film. At the exclusive pre-swap we also had a couple of outfits by them as well as from Weekday and Front Row Society. Stay tuned to the SKYY VODKA facebook page to find our more about the private swaps.

The Aurora of Blame

As the best things come in threes I have one more Berlin Fashion Week for you. While the presentations of Franziska Michael and Barre Noire were quite outgoing the collection of Berlin-based label Blame was a little bit more classic and monochrome in black, coal and shades of rose. As this color palette suggests the collection was inspired by Winter’s Aurora which is also its title. They had modern combinations of knitwear and leather, clean shapes with rich details. Overall the garments had darker tones and some playful crochet applications. The focus was on the modern designs and materials. The designers Sarah Büren and Sonja Hodzode are returning to the roots of their design work with their new looks. Get your own impression after the jump.

SKYY VODKA SWAP MARKET 2012 Photos

On Friday night the 7th SKYY VODKA SWAP MARKET took place at Café Moskau with the most amazing designer and vintage pieces to swap ever. We had a lot of fun dancing to the music of Alina and Andi from Frida Gold, DJ Noema and the boys of Bodi Bill. It was a great night and I feel lucky to be part of this project. Designers & Bloggers for Charity at the SKYY VODKA SWAP MARKET

Tomorrow it’s finally time for the next SKYY VODKA SWAP MARKET. The big charity swapping party is happening now for the 7th time and this year they have a new location at the historical Café Moskau. Bodi Bill will be DJ, along with Alina and Andi from Frida Gold and DJ Noema. At the swap market you will not only find really cool vintage pieces (I hear this year they got the best submissions ever) but also brand new designer clothes by labels such as JULIAANDBEN, Esther Perbandt, Von Bardonitz, Franzius, Boessert/Schorn, The Shit, Michalsky, Laurèl, Guido Maria Kretschmer and many more. Also for the first time 12 bloggers (including myself) have donated accessories, vintage or new designer clothes for a good cause, as all proceeds of the evening will be donated to the charity organisation Berliner Aids-Hilfe e.V.
