A Guide to the Coolest Alternative Christmas Markets in Berlin

Heissa Holzmarkt.

With our nerves hanging on really thin threads these days due to the… – let’s just call it circumstance – there is only one thing really keeping us remotely sane: the prospect of Christmas. It’s like that one warm cozy light at the end of the tunnel that is the second year in a fucking pandemic.

While a lot of markets were actually not happening last year, the vaccinations and current regulations make it possible that they are happening again this year. We are glad they are because Christmas and Winter markets make up for a lot of the magic of the holiday season. And no better excuse to fill up on mulled wine than a visit to a Christmas market.

Of course, we wouldn’t be iHeartBerlin if we sent you to the regular markets happening in the usual places – you know where to find those. We picked the more unique and special ones that often come with a little twist as well. Here goes our Christmas Market guide for 2021. (Mind you, they all call themselves “Winter Markets” these days for whatever reason that might be…)

KINK & frank Winter Market

The fabulous KINK Restaurant & Bar and frank Café have teamed up to transform the beautiful terrace of Pfefferberg into your new winter oasis. Find a spot by the crackling fire and enjoy a fresh-baked treat alongside a cup of good cheer. The KINK keeps spirits high with mulled wine, hot Aperol, and a jolly N/A punch. While frank Cafe’s expert pâtissière satisfies your sweet tooth with spicy-orange and chocolate gingerbread varieties. Of course, there’ll also be some hearty, savory dishes as well as beer and crémant for those who prefer. Local artisans join in with unique, delightful gifts.  From hand-designed yoga mats and luxurious self-care products to dried flower arrangements and eco-friendly clothing — you’ll find truly special gifts for friends and family!

November 25 – December 23, daily 15:00 – 22:00h, shopping Fri-Sun & Dec 23.

Zenner Wintergarten

The Zenner that reopened earlier this year with an amazing big beer garden has transformed their space into a winter wonderland including an ice rink where you can skate and curl. There are some specials planned for instance an icerink disco and family skating on the weekends. You can rent skates there if you don’t have any. It is recommended that you reserve a slot for the ice rink here. There will of course be food and drink there as well, including mulled wine, raclette, waffles, and seasonal soups.
