21 Gramm: The Beautiful Cafe in a Former Chapel in Neukölln

I guess everyone has a few very personal routines in their daily life, that they are very particular about. Little details that just spark a little bit of happiness. May it be the joy of using the same colorful little teacup every morning, wearing your favorite shoes to work or listening to the right song while sitting on your favorite spot by the door. I personally am very particular where I go to enjoy my coffee. Mostly before work or at lunch. The place has to be friendly, cozy, unpretentious and yet unique – topped by a tasty cappuccino!

The other day I was walking on Hermanstraße when I discovered a beautiful brick stone building, that had a sign next to it saying “21 Gramm”. It pointed toward a cozy courtyard, away from the busy street. Following that sign, little did I know that I was about to discover the most unusual café on Hermannstraße. Pushing the curtains at the entrance aside, you unexpectedly uncover a spacious room, with beautiful high ceilings and large columns that are connected by graceful bows. This unusual space has got all the atmosphere you could possibly wish for in a café. I knew immediately: This was the place I would sit down and enjoy my coffee!

Go Ice Skating at Berghain this Winter

The festival of experimental electronic music CTM 2019 (Club Transmediale) is bringing two unlikely mediums together that are both very popular during winter time: Berghain and ice skating! What?! Yesss, you heard correctly! CTM is announcing „Eishalle“, an installation that will feature an ice skating rink inside the impressively huge Halle am Berghain.

Starting on January 25th at 4 pm, you can officially go ice skating at Berghain! Of course, CTM won’t leave your ice skating performance without musical accompaniment. A variety of DJs such as in Skatebård, Rabih Beani, Mo Loschelder, Occult, and Freak de l’Afrique will create a one of a kind atmosphere. The installation and performances will be there for you to enjoy until February the 10th all topped by the unique light design of Berlin’s premier light artist Christopher Bauder.

This Instagram account has only been around for two months and already managed to become an insider amongst the techno crowd in Berlin – meet @nachtclubsberlin! This account is dedicated to showcasing spontaneous pictures of all kinds of party people before and after clubbing in the biggest techno clubs of Berlin. Behind the camera, we met photographer Sabrina Jeblaoui. The former Parisian fell in love with Berlin upon visiting the city several times in the past until she decided to move here on a whim in the Summer of 2017.

What I Miss About Berlin When I’m Abroad

Every time I spent a longer period of time abroad, staying in big cities always make me aware of what I appreciate the most about life in Berlin. To be an artist is to fail. These famous words by Marcel Proust introduce the Berlin-based web series “Big Heads”. As much appreciation as there is for Berlin’s international creative community, plenty of well-known stereotypes of artists have formed over the years. They persistently keep poking fun at those dreamful expats who come to Berlin to fulfill their desires of becoming an artist.

Producer and author Marlene Melchior and Alex Forge quickly picked up on this joke that is going around town on behalf of Berlin’s creative expat community and decided to start a mini web series about the dark hassle in the life of an aspiring artist in Berlin. The award-winning show is called Big Heads and documents the life of Anjuna Pashnani, a British girl in her quarter-life crises who moved to Berlin to become a writer of any kind, in search of a writing career she wants to pursue, the artsy characters she meets along the way and the typical challenges she faces to feel accomplished and arrived in Berlin.

A Declaration of Love to Garbicz Festival

For the past three years, my friend Anahita kept doting about Garbicz Festival. She kept telling me about its magical atmosphere, the friendly and open-hearted people, the heartfelt and detailed Katerblau-like decoration and colorfully dressed people. So, after all the gushing, this turned out to be her third year of Garbicz and, eventually, I called it my first!

The Garbicz Festival exists for 5 years now and is a communal project brought to life by the party creators Bachstelzen and Katerblau/Holzmarkt. These guys joined forces and bought the serene nature reserve bordering at the small village called Garbicz in Poland, where each year, the Festival is brought to life and in the end is taken down almost completely again. The area is an absolute gift to the festival, with a big lake to swim in or chill at and lots of trees, to camp in the shadows, protected by rain. The talented photographer Ole Ukena kept his camera close during those exciting 5 days, to distinctively capture the vibe of Garbicz Festival for you.
