Experience the Power of Flowers in Berlin

Experience the Power of Flowers in Berlin

Flowers are totally hype these days! With quite a few flower related start-ups and projects on the rise it seems they are taking over the reign from the trending positions of food delivery and dating apps of the last couple of years. The slightly antiquated job of the florist is now totally in fashion again.

Flower services such as Florale Welten, Damerius, Flowerstudio Berlin, Bloomon and many more are now reinventing the classical flower bouquet to make it into the contemporary, Instagram-worthy little pieces of art that people just can’t help but fall in love with.

Tollwasblumenmachen.de is an online magazine that is dedicated to the beauty of flowers and promotes all these little projects that we have here in Berlin. They also have a huge map and search function that let’s you find the best flower shops in your proximity.

This coming weekend they are organizing a huge Flower Market at Bikini Berlin that you shouldn’t miss. The amazing flower installation by Rebecca Louise Law in Spring showed us that flowers and the Bikini Berlin go really well together, so we are looking forward to this new flowertastic event.

Design Your Own Magnum Ice Cream at the Pleasure Store

Design Your Own Magnum Ice Cream at the Pleasure Store

After a hot summer day in the city, we couldn’t have imagined a better evening activity than visiting the opening party of the new Magnum Pleasure Store last Thursday at the Neues Kranzler Eck in Charlottenburg. During the Chocolate Hour that attracted top models, social media stars and ice cream lovers we had the chance to be one of the first people in Berlin to design our own unique Magnum. With the help of the “Pleasure Makers” in the store you could compile your own Magnum creation out of several tasty and decorative ingredients. The results were definitely the most stunning Magnum ice creams we’ve ever seen (and eaten).

The event was also the opening of the exhibition “Release the Beast” by famous fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott who shot Kendall Jenner for this photo series. The Pleasure Store has already opened in New York, London, Paris and Amsterdam and now it was about time that we got our hands on these deluxe ice creams here in Berlin. Get a preview of the store that will hopefully wet your appetite after the jump.

The Most Romantic Places of Berlin

The Most Romantic Places of Berlin

photo: berlijnblog

Berlin is certainly not Paris. It’s not known for being a city of love, maybe more for short-lived adventures? But regardless of Berlin’s rough nature, it does have an utterly romantic core. Something that you will only discover when you take the time to get to know it, and look underneath all it’s layers.

Beside the obvious places such as techno clubs, hipster cafes, co-working spaces, and cheap tourist attractions Berlin has a couple of truly unique places that a particular charm that I would describe as traditionally romantic. Imagine greek columns entwined by ivy, boot rides in fairytale-like forests, hidden rose gardens and bridges leading to palaces. It’s the stuff of Disney movies and Berlin has these kind of places too! Maybe you know some of them, but didn’t pay attention to recognize their true beauty. Or maybe you have never heard of them. Either way we would advise you to seek them out, maybe on your next date, maybe on your next family visit, or maybe by yourself with a good book. Enjoy our selection of the most romantic places of Berlin masterfully captured by some of our favorite Instagrammers (and myself).

The Most Awesome Vintage Shops in Berlin

The Most Awesome Vintage Shops in Berlin

AURA, photo: Dress Me Guide Me

The vintage and 2nd hand scene in Berlin is a very diverse world covering some rare vintage from golden times, contemporary high end brands as well as thrift stores where you can buy per kilo. The criteria which makes the difference between all those types is the selection of garments itself. While vintage is the label for clothes that were distinctive to a specific era that’s at least 10-15 years in the past, 2nd hand generally just describes clothes that have been worn by someone before. This could be anything ranging from 2000er high street pieces or last season’s designer stuff. Especially vintage stores pride themselves with the originality of their selection of pieces, that are mostly stand-outs, clean and in good condition. Just like well-curated 2nd hand shops they are usually done with a lot of love and passion, therefore vintage is usually more expensive than your average 2nd hand or thrift store.

Regardless of your personal preference, whether you buy 2nd hand or vintage as a political statement, to get trendy or luxurious brands for cheap or because you are searching for the pearl in a pile of random stuff to get that triumphant feeling of a precious discovery – Berlin’s got you covered!

Our guest contributor Emilie from Dress Me Guide Me selected some of the most awesome shops for you!

11 Amazing Restaurants in Berlin

11 Amazing Restaurants in Berlin

Berlin never ceases to amaze me in terms of its relentless ability to open new places. I was reposting our “new restaurants” guide from last year only a couple of months ago only to realize that it’s already been a year. So I thought, with all the news of new places popping up recently, it’s time for a brand new “new restaurants” in Berlin guide – the 2016 edition, so to speak. And again here I was thinking it would be a quick piece with maybe 6 or 7 fresh restaurants. Well, think again, Frank – it’s BERLIN – there is not gonna just be only 7 new places… My list ended up including 15 11 (!) exciting restaurants that opened their doors in 2016. And I’m just talking about the places that stand out and already experience a good portion of hype! Of course, we’ll add new ones along the way this year, so stay tuned for more. But for now here are our fresh pickings.

The Most Unusual Restaurants in Berlin

The Most Unusual Restaurants in Berlin

Berlin rarely comes short when it comes to original and unique ideas to make ordinary things more interesting. Take restaurants, for instance: Why eat in a normal place if you could also eat inside an old bus, in a greenhouse or in a gondola that came all the way from the snow covered Alps. For some dining experiences you just need a very special location for that extra amount of oohs and ahhs. We compiled a list of the 13 most unusual restaurants and cafes in Berlin that won’t disappoint you with their unique locations.

A Guide to Nonsmoker Friendly Bars in Berlin

A Guide to Nonsmoker Friendly Bars in Berlin

photo: Alicia Kassebohm

Berlin is a city that ends up in smoke. No hard feelings here, if we’re being real: a cigarette with a good drink is one of the most oddly satisfying things. It is bad though. For the environment, others and mostly you. We all know this moment the next morning when smelling your hair and clothes from last night. It’s a rough one. Suddenly, all of your choices from last night are just the burn mark on your new sweater that smells like it was manufactured out of ash in a volcano. Not only non-smokers, even the toughest chain-smoker must be grossed out in this moment. Not to mention: hangovers are way harder when you didn’t only have Mr. Gin and Mr. Jack Daniels with you, but also the Marlboro Man. Or Pepe.

If you’ve had enough of all of the smoke and fire and want to burn the bad choices, we have some addresses for you where you can get a drink or dance without the fumes. Right after the jump is our list of favorite non-smoker friendly bars (which by our definition are bars that have separate smokers and non-smokers areas or are completely smoke-free). read more…

A One of a Kind Christmas Market

A One of a Kind Christmas Market

Every year it’s the same: What to give your loved ones for Christmas? It’s not easy these days to find something really unique because we live in a world where everything exists a thousand times and in the end nothing is really special. But of course you want to give something that is different and special. Something that only exists one time.

This month there is a Christmas market taking place inside Bikini Berlin that took this desire to heart and specialized in one of a kind products. Here you’ll find artisanal products, garments, delicacies, design objects and so much more – but all of it is hand-made and one of a kind and not mass-produced. The idea of the market pretty much aligns itself with the concept of the Bikini Berlin, because the shops inside here are different from the highstreet chains that you’ll find in regular malls and offer unique products for the sophisticated customer.

The One of a Kind Christmas Market at Bikini Berlin will be open on the coming two weekends from Thursday to Saturday. Have a look after the jump for some impressions from last weekend and more info.

Exploring Berlin: Our Favorites in the West

Exploring Berlin: Our Favorites in the West

Writing the different city guides for our ongoing series Exploring Berlin has been a true pleasure in the past months. It’s something that we haven’t done so much in the past, but have been really getting into especially within the last year. We love how it makes us explore parts of Berlin that we haven’t been so focused on before and to always look out for the new things popping up. We have also enjoyed the feedback that we get from you guys that add their personal favorites to our themed or district guides and most of all we love to read the comments how these guides have helped you find you way around in Berlin.

When Citadines asked us to compile one of our Berlin guides for their Travel Capsule campaign we were of course happy to do so. The Travel Capsule is an interactive experiences in Paris and London that combines the physical with the digital. In both cities, the brand will set up a studio in big train stations which is a recreation of a Citadines apart‘hotel. In this studio visitors will be able to travel to either Berlin, London or Paris via a big interactive screen where they will get special recommendations for each city curated by local bloggers. This is were we come in: We chose 20 places in Berlin in different categories including culture, food, business and shopping that will be shown on an interactive video map inside the Travel Capsules giving the visitor a digital tour of the town while snacking on specialties from each respective country. If they are lucky they can also win trips and hotel nights in one of those cities such as Berlin where the Citadines apart’hotel is located at Olivaer Platz right in the heart of Charlottenburg.

We want to share a part of this guide with you today and selected 10 places that are in the West of Berlin including Tiergarten, Charlottenburg and Schöneberg – those districts that we have neglected far too long and that we particularly enjoy to discover these days. Have a look at our selection after the jump!
