Berlin Fashion Week Guide

Diese Woche steht ganz im Zeichen der Mode mit der Berlin Fashion Week, die die kommenden Herbst/Winter 2011/12 auf den zahlreichen Laufstegen präsentiert. Wieder mal ist die Woche vollgepackt mit spannenden Events, Showrooms, Runway Shows, Designer Sales, Ausstellungen und Partys. Also eine Menge möglichkeiten, eine tägliche Überdosis an Fashion zu bekommen.

Um euch möglichst effektiv durch den Dschungel an Events und Partys zu manövrieren, findet ihr nach dem Klick die interessantesten Veranstaltungen aus dem Bereich Avantgarde und Street Fashion. Wenn ihr unterwegs seid, solltet ihr euch auch unbedingt das Daily Newspaper von BerlinFashion.tv greifen, zu dem nämlich meine beiden Koautoren Suz und C.R. wie auch schon in den vergangenen Saisons einige Artikel beigetragen haben.

Monday

The official Fashion Week actually starts on Wednesday. But with all the off-schedule events early in the week there is sort of an unofficial kick-off on Monday already with a collaboration of the daily fashion week newspaper by Derzeit and Weekday. It’s called the Twelve Calendar project and it will feature 12 upcoming young models and 12 Berlin-based designers photographed by Amos Fricke. There is a really cool promo video for the project that you can find here. The cocktail reception that starts at 19:30h is for invited guests only, but the aftershow party at HBC starting at 22h is open to everyone and free of entrance. It is cohosted by the new Monday club night Cinéma with guest DJs Bonnie Strange and Willy Wonka. Karl-Liebknechtstr. 9.

Tuesday

The projektGalerie is one of Berlin’s oldest and most established platforms for avant-garde fashion. With their showroom, photo exhibition and fashion presentation they have now moved from Torstrasse to the HBC. All of their fashion events are for professional guests but the grand opening party on Tuesday is open to the public and free of entrance. Starts at 19h, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 9.

SHOW is a new group show of young designers from Berlin, among them Moga E Mago and Von Bardonitz, that takes place at Tacheles at 19:30h. Like most shows it is for invited guests only, but the aftershow at Pret-A-Diner, the new pop-up restaurant at Alte Münze is public. Starts at 21h, Am Krögel 2. Free entrance.

Fans of Antwerp Royal Acadamy designers Henrik Vibskov, Bernhard Willhelm, Peter Pilotto and Mikio Sakabe shouldn’t miss the exhibition Recollection opening at Buehnenservice at 20h at Zinnowitzer Strasse corner of Nordbahnhof. The opening is for invited guests only, but the exhibition is public from Wednesday-Sunday from 12-22h. More infos about it over at I Love Ponys.

Wednesday

After the two big fashion shows and the SKYY SWAP MARKET last year Designer Scouts is going into its fourth round with the DESIGNER SCOUTS SHOWCASE at the brand new Achteinhalb Concept Store. Four designers are presented in a showroom with a fashion photo exhibition: Anna Wegelin, who you might already now from her blog Lachsbrötchen, Phoebe Heess, the London-based cult label and concept store  Beyond The Valley, as well as my own accessorie label Carni. The opening event with live fashion presentations on Wednesday at 19-21h will be for invited guests only, but the showroom and exhibition are open to the public. The showroom is open until Saturday, the exhibition will run until February 19th. Achteinhalb is located at Kollwitzstr. 42. More infos here.

Edged is one promising new project for avant-garde and street fashion this season. It is on the one hand a pop-store with a designer sale with many Berlin-based designers such as Butterfly Soulfire, Dont Shoot The Messenger and Paula Immich, as well as international designers like Henrik Vibskov, Odeur, AND_I and Barbara I Gongini. But Edged is also a showroom for avantgarde fashion that. The opening party will take place on Wednesday from 19h till midnight. The showroom is open until Saturday and the designer sale will carry on until January 31.

The Happy Shop is a new colorful concept store with a lot of great labels like Smeilinener, Bernhard Willhelm and Meadham Kirchhoff that dare to be different and don’t care about trends from Skandinavia. They also carry the London-based bstore label as well as Topman and Topshop. I think it’s the first time I hear that Topshop is selling here in Berlin. The opening party on Wednesday at 19-23h is for invited guests only, but the store will be officially open starting on Thursday at Torstr. 67.

Thursday

The Nokia Smartstyles are taking over the Apple Design Gallery at Torstr. 114 from Thursday to Saturday with their young designer showroom, fashion lounge and Smartstyle Lab where international fashion photographer Ives Borgwardt will photograph the smartest avantgarde looks of the fashional crowd of Berlin. MADE and LaMJC are celebrating the book release of All Gone, a selection of the finest of street culture, and their 5th anniversary exhibition at Alexanderstr. 7, 19h.

WeSC is throwing a party at the new nhow design Hotel. Stralauer Allee 3, 22h, free entry.

Disco-Popeye and Hercules And Love Affair mastermind Andy Butler is having a DJ set at the Fashion Week Special at Asphalt, Mohrenstr. 30, 22h.

Friday

Fashion bloggers will unite for a friendly get together at the FashionBloggerCafé at Mein Haus Am See at Rosenthaler Platz starting at 15h.

Berlin-based label Dont Shoot The Messengers are having a cocktail reception in their boutique and showroom at 15:30h at Rückerstr. 10.

After her fashion show Berlins number one avant-garde designer Esther Perbandt is inviting to the official after show party at nhow design hotel starting at 23h at Stralauer Allee 3.

Saturday

Jessica Weiß and Julia Knolle  – the girls who founded  Germany’s biggest fashion blog LesMads – have written a book called Modestrecke – Unterwegs mit den LesMads about their adventures in the fashion world. The charming girls are inviting everyone to the launchparty of their book at Departmentstore Cabinet Friedrichstr. 71, starting at 17h. I for sure will get my signed copy there!

Achtung Magazine and Get Physical are doing a Fashion Week Party at Cookies with Fetish & Kaos, Niki Pauls and special guest designer Patrick Mohr. Friedrichstr. corner of Unter den Linden. 23h.

They opened it and they are closing it: Derzeit is inviting to the FIN Fashion Week Closing Party at Picknick. Dorotheenstr. 90, 23h.

Sunday

If you liked the SKYY SWAP MARKET then you might also like the Swapping Party by Wedding Dress. Swap clothes instead of buying them at Brunnenstr. 65 starting at 15h. You can still submit your old clothes and exchange them for coupons on Friday between 12-20h and on Saturday between 12-18h.
