Weichei (“soft egg”) makes totally sense to me. It might rather refer to balls, which are called eggs in German. So somebody who has no balls (no hard eggs) is clearly an “soft egg”.
Armleuchter is used as a euphemism for “Arschloch” – using the same initial sound but avoiding the rude and abusive swear word.
I always thought “Hackfresse” would refer more to a face you would like to redesign with your cooking tools. (“hacken” = chop / hash)
“Weichei” basically refers to a person as ” being Pussy” but in polite way. So, if you are in public place, instead of saying “Don’t be such a pussy”, one could say “Don’t be such a Weichei”.
I think you should also not forget to mention “Sitzpinkler”, “Pappnase” and “Korinthenkacker” 😀
I can not explain this in English, so I do it in German: Hackfresse hat etwas zu tun mit den Burschenschaften, vor allem mit den schlagenden Verbindungen. Die mit vielen Narben im Gesicht von den Duellen hatten eine Hackfresse.
wow, thanks for explaining that, it makes a lot of sense now!
may I add:
Pfeffersack (pepper bag, wealthy businessman)
Erbenzähler (pea counter, somebody who is stingy)
Schnarchvogel (snorring bird, somebody boring or slow)
Bremer (literally inhabitants of city of Bremen, somebody who is lazy/let others do his work)
