Steps To Yourself – The Stairways of Berlin

photos: Jorge Alva

Berlin – always a step ahead – has countless stairways. To doors, apartments, to heaven.

Young Berlin-based photographer Jorge Alva captures these stairs perfectly for his Instagram account Urbanentdecker. His photographs focus on abstraction and colors, structures and perspectives. Every single photo he publishes embodies the perfect composition. Jorge seems to love interesting staircases in particular, photographing a lot of them here in Berlin. While looking at them, we couldn’t help but wonder about ourselves. About how steps are just like the road to self-discovery, climbing to ourselves. Our thoughts and Jorge’s marvelous photographs – right after the jump.

Upwards and onwards, to the left and down,
to the right and towards truth – is where your life may lead you.
Two steps ahead and the third goes right back.

*

*

Slowly and steadily steering into yourself.
Every step you make: won’t be missing you.

*

*

You need to get ahead and move on,
leave whatever has left you, whatever is gone.

*

*

Yes, you’re strong. You’re strong and brave,
the stairs you take will lead you to yourself –
miraculous carousel.

*

*

Looking from above, searching for the ground
is sometimes where the best of us are found.

*

*

That’s okay – stepping up the first floor
will make everything worth waiting for.

*

*

The second floor is even better,
taking you to where you matter.

*

*

Third floor keeps the promise made in the basement,
you are allowed to be patient.

*

*

Floor by floor is taken now, this is where you end up somehow,
at the core: top floor.

*

*

At the attic of things, dreams in full spring,
you see that there is more to you
than just a number of floors and doors: a view.

*

*

It’s what keeps it all together –
the pieces, steps and railings help you manage any weather.

*

*

Up top is where you’ll get a sight of what is, not what might – be.
Every staircase, every railing, every step: is me.
