Summer Season is finally back and with it comes one of our favorite events of the year. “Staatsoper für Alle” – the yearly open air classic festival that takes over Bebelplatz Unter den Linden is finally back in its full form. No tickets needed, no restrictions regarding Covid anymore and we have a special picnic pop up waiting for our readers.

I don’t know how you feel, but for me Unter den Linden is one of the busiest streets during the week. Cars, tourist buses and construction sites make the most famous street of Berlin sometimes unbearable to walk despite its beautiful sites. But this is going to change this upcoming weekend.

On the occasion of the yearly classic music festival “Staatsoper für Alle” by Staatsoper Berlin, Unter den Linden gets closed to traffic and finally the noisy street becomes quiet. Cornered by all the beautiful buildings, Bebelplatz will become the perfect place to  enjoy the sounds of classical music happening on this special weekend. The last years due to Covid regulations the festival was always a seated concert with lots of distance. This year it’s back in its original form, without chairs and without tickets, where everybody can come with a blanket and a cushion, sit on the floor of Bebelplatz and create their own picnic. As a beautiful coincidence, this Saturday is also the annual World Picnic Day. So it’s the perfect occasion to celebrate it with us.

In 2018 we started the tradition to make our own little picnic for our readers and this year’s edition will be the perfect time to do it again after the covid break. We will bring everything you need to have a tasty picnic with friends and we are giving away 3×2 spots for the Opera on the 18th of June for our readers to join the picnic party. What is the program for this year?

On Saturday the 18th of June at 18:00h there will be a cinema-like open-air screening of the opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini with the famous Zubin Metha as musical director. The opera will have its premiere staged simultaneously inside the opera house.

On Sunday the 19th of June at 13:00h there will be a live concert by Staatskapelle Berlin directed by no other than famous orchestra conductor Daniel Barenboim with pieces from Schumann and Tschaikowsky.

Staatsoper für Alle is organized by Staatsoper Berlin in collaboration with BMW who supports the Opera as a main partner in making this event free for everybody and making classical music more accessible.
