A New Take On the Iconic Illustration of the Line At Berghain by Nicola Napoli

A New Take On the Iconic Illustration of the Line At Berghain by Nicola Napoli

Even though clubs have been closed for over a year now, surprisingly, we haven’t really run short on news about Berlin’s famous nightlife places. From photography projects on clubber outfits, empty dancefloors, or outdoor raving, to virtual clubs and nightlife activism – there is always something to write about. And we are glad to keep the spirit alive this way, even though we’re all really craving for a party right now.

Artist and illustrator Nicola Napoli has also dedicated some of his time during the lockdown to work on a new nightlife-related piece. He’s blessed us already with various party-themed artworks in the past, but his most notable work might be the iconic line at Berghain that he first came out with back in 2014. It was one of our most successful articles of the time and it prompted a collaborative event and exhibition that we hosted together with him showcasing a new elaborate 10-meter long artwork.

An Illustrated Tribute to David Bowie by Nicola Napoli

An Illustrated Tribute to David Bowie by Nicola Napoli

The Berlin-based illustrator is at it again! You might know him from his iconic Berghain and nightlife illustrations that we totally fell in love with – so much, in fact, that we dedicated a whole exhibition in his honor, for which he created his biggest and most elaborate illustration to date. In his latest set of illustrations he pays tribute to the late David Bowie – a character so full of inspiration and creativity that he has influenced not only musicians and performers, but all kinds of artists all over the world. In the two new works by Nicola you can see two of Bowie’s most iconic looks: The Kansai Yamamoto outfit from the Aladdin Sane era that was inspired by Oscar Schlemmers Triadic Ballet, and the turquoise suit from the Ziggy Stardust era.

Get Ready for Berlinferno by Nicola Napoli

Get Ready for Berlinferno by Nicola Napoli

We’ve followed Italian illustrator and artist Nicola Napoli now already for quite a while, starting with his famous piece of the line in front of Berghain, over to the amazing garden of lust that was commissioned for the flyer of the monthly Berghain program, to his witty and fascinating portrayal of the iconic Kotti and of course his most recent interpretations of famous fashion designers.

Now for the first time we’ve collaborated with him for a brand new artwork and it’s going to be a quite ambitions one. He will present his new piece BERLINFERNO at the Absolut Art Bar that will take place on Saturday, August 1st 2015 at the brand new Blogfabrik (the crazy new blogger space that we share with many other content creators). K.O.tti – An Interpretation by Nicola Napoli

K.O.tti – An Interpretation by Nicola Napoli

On Friday young artist and visual designer Nicola Napoli opened his first solo show at the CLUB and the turn up was amazing! So  many people followed his invitation and made this a really great opening. At his show that will still be on display until September 4th he did not only show his famous Berghain artworks and other nightlife related pieces, but also a very new and amazing illustration called “K.O.tti” depicting Kottbusser Tor. It is actually his most amazing work so far perfectly capturing the contemporary Berlin Zeitgeist like nothing I’ve ever seen. I bet this one will be in history books about our time some time in the far future. In his panorama of the popular hotspot in the center of Kreuzberg he combines all the different worlds that come together here: The Turkish shop owners selling fruits and Döner, the junkies at the corner being zoned-out, the young hipster kids with their transparent tops, the Swedish tourist with their instant cameras, the African drug dealer spreading some magic feelings, the Burka-wearing Muslim ladies and other random folks stumbling by. It’s a fantastic interpretation of this unique place in Berlin. And this is only the start as Nicola is planning to create these panoramas for other districts and popular spots too. I’m certainly looking forward to see more. Meanwhile you all should head over Nicola’s webshop and order the beautiful hand-signed and numbered limited prints of his pieces. After the jump a closer look at K.O.tti.

Berlin Nightlife Illustrated: Party Hard with Nicola Napoli

Berlin Nightlife Illustrated: Party Hard with Nicola Napoli

Our friend and talented young artist and illustrator Nicola Napoli has always had a special admiration for the Berlin nightlife. Last year the Italian-born and Berlin-based artist became a bit famous for his illustration of the cue in front of Berghain. The club owners liked his work so much that they commissioned him to do the flyer for one of their monthly party programs which turned out to be an even more popular piece of his portfolio. From than on he continued to work with this theme and has by now quite an amazing collection of Berlin nightlife-related works. Enjoy some of them after the jump.

The Line at Berghain Illustration by Nicola Napoli

The Line at Berghain Illustration by Nicola Napoli

Nicola Napoli is a talented young visual designer from Italy currently based in Berlin who can count renowned clients such as Vice Magazine, musician DENA, adidas, Issyvoo, Noisy and Soundcloud to his list of references. His work includes album covers, prints for garments, magazine layouts, illustrations and other creative products and projects.

One of his recent works for Issyvoo made the rounds on social media websites and became quite the hit. It shows a playful interpretation of the line in front of the famous Berghain nightclub and what happens to the people who get rejected at the door. What’s interesting about it is how Nicola sees the different kinds of people you would imagine going to Berghain (the reality is actually not quite as flamboyant). Get a closer look after the jump.

Fantastic Playground Berlin Opening Recap

Fantastic Playground Berlin Opening Recap

As some of you already know we are right in the middle of our new group exhibition Fantastic Playground Berlin that you can still visit until Saturday at the Marcell von Berlin Flagship Store on Friedrichstraße 172. We have been planning this show for a long time now and we still can’t believe that it finally materialized, and it looks so much more amazing than we ever could have wished for.

This exhibition is really special to us because for the first time we had a theme that allowed us to create something like a retrospective of our work for iHeartBerlin for the past 15 years. Berlin is a playground of ideas – this has always been an important theme for us as we featured all these wonderful and inspiring projects from different creative scenes that make up Berlin. It’s so diverse and fun and colorful. To us, it’s the essence of Berlin and why this city is so special. It feels like everyone can find their space on this wild playground.

Fantastic Playground Berlin

iHeartBerlin is inviting you to their new group exhibition Fantastic Playground Berlin.

For decades Berlin has been the secret creative hub of Europe. From music to art. From theater to architecture. From techno to science. Berlin became the place where cultures clashed – but in a good way.
In the group exhibition “Fantastic Playground Berlin”, the city and culture magazine iHeartBerlin wants to celebrate the unique diversity of Berlin’s creative scenes and invite the visitors to discover their secrets and potential.
The exhibition will consist of several pieces by visual artists including photographers, illustrators, designers, and video artists. On the opening night, a cast of unique performers will invite the audience to immerse themselves into the fantastic playground of Berlin.
The selection of the involved artists displays intersectional positions and gives space to marginalized and queer voices and performers. Many of them struggled during the lockdown not only financially but also for artistic recognition since most places where they used to work had to close and artistic grants were given to only a few. With vaccines and testing possibilities, it’s time to give the creative scene the space and recognition they deserve for making Berlin so unique.
A little preview of the exhibition
The Fantastic Playground Berlin is supported by the Bezirksamt Mitte.

Fantastic Playground Berlin – iHeartBerlin’s New Exhibition

Today, we are proud to announce our next big group exhibition “Fantastic Playground Berlin” which will celebrate the unique diversity of Berlin’s creative scene. It’s been a couple of years now since our last big exhibition Uncensored Berlin so we thought it was about time to do a new one. The last two years during the pandemic with its various lockdowns and restrictions have not been easy for the art and culture scene – nor have they been easy for us. This new show is our effort to reclaim spaces and draw the attention back to the creative people that we care about so much.

For decades Berlin has been the secret creative hub of Europe. From music to art. From theater to architecture. From techno to science. Berlin became the place where cultures clash – but in a good way.
