A Complete Guide to Take-Away Breakfast in Berlin

photo: Benedict Berlin.

There’s nothing better than waking up, walking out the door and sitting down for a delicious breakfast, usually with a mimosa in hand, in one of Berlin’s many cafes. But with lockdown 2.0 extended at least until January 10th, it’ll be a while until we can meet up for breakfast again. To cure your cravings for eggs benny, pancakes, bacon and hot coffee we’ve compiled this list of breakfast spots that are offering take away during the pandemic.

Please note that lots of these restaurants are trying to figure out how to survive during the pandemic. That being said, some of the photos may not perfectly reflect what is currently available for take-away and delivery times may vary. These small businesses are struggling during the pandemic and need our help to survive; so order some food, take it home and enjoy in your sweatpants with a cocktail, we won’t judge you!

Unser Cafe

Unser Café is a down-to-earth cafe in the Scandinavian quarter of Prenzlauer Berg specializing in Portuguese baked goods. They also serve typical breakfast foods like a banging English breakfast, shakshuka and even a breakfast burger (yum). You can order on their website every day from 9:00 to 16:00 for pickup.

Annelies

This lovely little café right on the Görli offers a selection of breakfast items with a focus on high-quality ingredients and coffee. You should always expect the unexpected from Annelies; their menu features specialties like a breakfast sandwich with pancakes as the buns and chicken liver pate on sourdough toast with preserved blueberry and hazelnuts. They’re only open on the weekend at the moment so wake up late and enjoy some seriously delicious breakfast.

Benedict Berlin

This Berlin breakfast staple is known for 24/7 service, excellent grub, and long waits on the weekends. During the pandemic, they’re serving up their usual dishes in a COVID-friendly fashion with either take away orders or what they call “picnic boxes,”—simply grab a box and go. Picnic weather may be over, but these boxes are here to stay and can of course also be enjoyed indoors. They’ve unfortunately had to adjust their opening times because of the current restrictions.

Hallesches Haus

One of our favorite spots and host to many iHeartBerlin events, Hallesches Haus is now offering take-away breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. They also do delivery to Xberg, Neukölln, Schöneberg and Mitte. While the store is still open, they’re only doing take away and delivery on the weekends from 11:00 – 15:00 but times are changing regularly so make sure to keep up with them on their socials. You can preorder on their website.

This Neukölln staple offers a small menu that changes weekly and features Australian breakfast foods, served all day with ethically sourced coffee. They focus on sustainability, adapt their menu to reflect what’s in season and are completely veggie. Go grab yourself a satisfying vegetarian breakfast if you’re in the area.

This lovely lunch and brunch place in Schöneberg knows the world of delivery well because they are also a catering service. They focus on a fusion of middle eastern and western cuisines serving up the crispiest tahdig (try it if you haven’t), breakfast baguettes and halva brownies. Rocket + Basil offers take-away and delivery. You can simply order your dishes online and pick up 15-20 minutes later during their opening hours.

Distrikt Coffee

Distrikt Coffee specializes in quality coffee but also serves delicious food. We already mentioned their sister café, Annalies, but both had to be included because they’re incredible spots to enjoy a good cup of joe and eggy affairs. They serve both sweet and savory grub so there’s something to please every palate.
