Zentrale is a new non-profit space in a former video store, which is about to be demolished. In the meantime a free space for exchange, creativity and art of any direction is created here. A place of encounter for all who want to feel what makes Berlin special.
The group exhibition Wir müssen noch DVDs abgeben (We still have to hand in DVDs) reflects the philosophy of the space: socio-critical, dystopian works from Berlin’s subculture are set in the context of the eternal loss of Berlin’s in-between spaces. The exhibition allows 16 young artists* a projection surface far from the established structures of the elitist art market, far from inaccessibility and commercialization. Through a variety of media, including sculptures, video installations, paintings, and performances, young creatives push the boundaries of what are considered traditional art forms and make them accessible to a wider audience. They all question the accessibility of social spaces, combined with a tribute to the space and its history as a former video store.
Exhibiting artists*: Jasmin Halama, Lydi Marx, Jb Burguet, Helene von Schirach, Pertti Hagelstein, Hannah Rettl, Erik Mikail, Johannes Farfsing, Luisa Brune, Peter Schwarz, YNRY, Anna Zrenner, Sophie Klock, Jojo Pistorius, Ming Yuan, Gregoire Miñana.
Curator: Elise Steilen, UdK student and member of the Kunstverein council+.
