Against the Grain is a Berlin based dance festival which offers a stage and space for POC, Queer, Non-binary/Trans, and radically thinking dancers and performers who are often times fighting for visibility in the dance world. After a successful first year, Against the Grain is back for its second iteration including six dance works from talented international artists who are exploring new artistic concepts and ‘go against the grain’: Mandy Lan & Elif, Leah Meirinhos, Katherine Rojas Contreras & Libertad Esmeralda Iocco, Naomi Barki, Pamela Moraga, and a new work by a guest choreographer. Against the Grain is produced by Manuel Meza who is an international working performer, choreographer and teacher who has worked with Okwui Okpokwasili, Deutsche Oper, Festival D’Aix-en-provence, California Institute of the Arts, Riverside City College, Marameo Berlin, TanzFaktur, and Berlin Dance Institute. Against the Grain is a nonprofit event that is growing into a valued contribution to the Berlin dance scene.
