HOSHIKO YAMANE + MAKOTO SAKAMOTO
Hoshiko Yamane, aka Tukico, is a violinist and a member of the German progressive band Tangerine Dream. Makoto Sakamoto is a noise-ambient artist and a member of the dance music unit Sub Human Bros. Both artists are involved in various other projects. Yamane has been part of Tangerine Dream since 2011, while Sakamoto participates in multiple endeavors, including the duo project Sub Human Bros with his brother, the experimental trio Noctiluca, and as a composer for the Karlsruhe Schlosslichtspiele, organized by ZKM.
Their work feels like a conversation between the two, unfolding in real-time. The music is spontaneous, evolving organically, and as you listen, you’ll find yourself immersed in the “moment” that passes by, swept up in the sound they create.
Despite their vastly different musical backgrounds, their paths crossed in a way that is both surprising and delightful. After an hour of experiencing the world they introduce, you’ll be grateful for this unexpected fusion. With four releases under their belt—Fahrenheit, Innen, Versteckt, and Aus einer getrennten Welt—they have already performed in experimental venues such as Ausland and Teufelsberg Dom, among others.
Sakamoto’s experimental approach complements Yamane’s, resulting in a fusion of noise and melody that captures the essence of impermanence—music created in the moment. Together, their collaboration offers an unmissable experience for fans of ambient and experimental soundscapes.
YAPORIGAMI
Under the moniker Yaporigami, Berlin-based artist Yu Miyashita, also known as the “Japanese Aphex Twin,” creates a sonic world of fractured rhythms and experimental beats. A music producer, film composer, audio post-production engineer, drummer, and DJ, Yaporigami’s work delves into the exploration of human duality. Themes such as good and evil, sanity and madness, blessings and curses are intricately woven into his compositions, resulting in music that inhabits the tension of opposing forces—like life and death. Not everything or nothing, but everything and nothing.
“Somehow elegantly weightless yet utterly bombed out and forceful,” writes Boomkat, capturing the essence of Yaporigami’s sound—an intricate balance of fragility and intensity that defies easy categorization.
Yaporigami’s work has also been praised for its groundbreaking contribution to visual and cinematic experiences. “Along with the images, the score by Yu Miyashita and its accompanying sound design constitute a challenge to conventional Western film language. It’s a welcome and necessary one, I think,” notes Glenn Kenny of RogerEbert, emphasizing the innovative and evocative nature of his compositions.
Through Yaporigami, Miyashita redefines the boundaries of experimental music, offering listeners a profound and immersive auditory experience that resonates deeply with the complexities of human existence.
Archives Sonores II will start with an ambient live performance by Izumi Yamamoto and close with an experimental DJ set by Avi Caspi.
