From Valparaíso to Berlin: With their performance “Un violador en tu camino” / “A rapist on your way”, the feminist performance collective LASTESIS has set a movement in motion that reaches far beyond the borders of Chile. Thousands of women and queers around the world organized themselves and took the choreography, which calls for resistance against sexualized violence, to the streets of their cities.
After LASTESIS was already a guest at HAU in March 2020 and December 2021, the collective invites women and queers of different biographies to a joint work process. The performance attempts to translate theories of Judith Butler, Paul B. Preciado and María Lugones with the help of scenic means, carried by the bodies and experiences of the participants. In the antagonism between oppression and joy, death and celebration, accusation and resistance, it is about defending the right to live without violence in the context of colonization and prevailing extractivism.
LASTESIS is a Chilean feminist performance collective from Valparaíso, Chile, consisting of Daffne Valdés Vargas, Paula Cometa Stange and Sibila Sotomayor Van Rysseghem. Through performative means, LASTESIS addresses sexualized violence while translating feminist theories into a multimedia format.
