Masculinity has a problem, and it’s not our conservative or liberal values that have stunted its expression. Throughout history, tribal societies guided youth through meaningful rites of passage into adulthood. These were essential psychological transitions, carefully shepherded by community elders. Those rituals are gone, replaced by a system of labor-capital exchange. Through art, the MASCULINITY exhibition explores how the absence of these transitions has affected masculine identity, documents the effects visible in contemporary society, and imagines pathways toward healthier expressions of masculine energy across the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and culture.
The MASCULINITY exhibition will feature physical works from 15 artists at Quantum Galerie, Berlin, accompanied by a collection of digital artworks released in collaboration with Tezos on the Objkt platform through Cyberforms gallery.
