Do you ever imagine a future where humans have learned to live in peaceful harmony with animals and nature? With all the doom and gloom that we are surrounded by every day, it’s certainly a soothing thought experiment to do. The Solarpunk exhibition MEAT UTOPIA presents digital artworks with encouraging visions of a sustainable and resilient world that whet the appetite for a future where humans, animals and nature live in a healthy balance. Presented by The Vegetarian Butcher, part of the exhibition highlights how our diets, particularly meat consumption, can influence the shaping of a livable future.
Immerse yourself in the world of solarpunk – an art form that, in contrast to the dark and dystopian movement of cyberpunk, looks optimistically towards the future and creates encouraging worlds. The foundation of these worlds is the resolution of the ecological crisis from within the community: a possible future in which humans, nature, animals, and technology can coexist on equal terms, and exploitation has been overcome. A utopia.
MEAT UTOPIA – A SOLARPUNK EXHIBITION is dedicated to this emerging movement and presents artistic solutions to the imbalance between humans, animals, and nature. On two levels, the exhibition provides hopeful, colorful, and radiant insights into a sustainable and resilient world, where technologies are utilized to address ecological and social issues in a holistic and community-based manner.
The exhibiting artists include pioneers of the solarpunk movement such as Rita Fei, Félix Riaño, or the internationally acclaimed design studio Karakter, as well as young talents with newer works.
The digital artworks depict partly fantastical natural motifs – often in connection with underutilized technology or architecture. The representations range from ornamental Jugendstil-inspired works to photorealistic worlds that are truly captivating.
In addition to the existing works of solarpunk artists, there are art pieces that creatively illuminate the relationship between humans, animals, and nutrition using artificial intelligence.
