Poland and Hungary share a close connection through history, politics, and culture: shaped by the Cold War and the aftermath of the post-socialist past; confronted with asymmetrical, hierarchical relations with neighbouring countries and the dominance of Eurocentric knowledge production. Montag Modus: archive of futures is a three-part project curated by the interdisciplinary series Montag Modus featuring artists and artistic positions from Hungary and Poland.
Local cosmologies, queer practices of world-making and decolonial historiographies underpin the second edition of ‘archive of futures’, which comprises a full-length performance exhibition throughout Radialsystem. Works by the Budapest-based collective Hollow, Berlin-based Polish choreographer Przemek Kamiński, Berlin-based Polish artist Alicja Rogalska, and Warsaw-based choreographer Marta Ziółek draw on worldbuilding strategies of Eastern European grassroots initiatives, and explore forms of resistance within feminist and queer communities. They speculate on the potential of posthuman corporeality as well as alternative realities and possible future scenarios.
archive of futures unfolds along the search for visions of the future that leave space for local identities and regional agency beyond nationalist ideologies. Decolonial thinking that accommodates regional specificities is extended through performative practices, embodied knowledge, and dance. The three-part series takes place at various locations in Berlin throughout 2023 – the third and final part will follow in October at Tanzfabrik Berlin.
