8pm sharp: “Mustache Funk”, 72 Min, Ukrainian w/ English subtitles – GERMAN PREMIERE!
Spectacular documentary about the 1970s when bands like Smerichka, Zhyva Voda, or Vizerunky Shliakhiv were looking for a distinct Ukrainian identity within the Soviet Union, fusing Eastern Ukrainian vocal polyphony, Carpathian broken rhythms and Funk. Fuzz guitars, psychedelic keyboard excursions, funky basslines – and most male member sporting mustaches.
“Ukrainian Funk was the most forceful music scene in the Soviet Union.”
