‘Latent Being’ is a new audiovisual installation by Refik Anadol, a pioneer in the aesthetics of artificial intelligence. For this work, Anadol uses a cutting-edge deep learning algorithm to transform Kraftwerk Berlin into an immersive environment of four chapters. The algorithm is fed immense amounts of data, consisting of digitized visual and sonic memories of the city as well as movement patterns from the exhibitions’ visitors. Becoming a “dreaming machine”, the algorithm creates mesmerizing AI data paintings – challenging our perception of time and space as well as our relationship with AI machines.
