In February 2023, the Komische Oper Berlin will give the starting signal for Schall&Rausch – the new, annual festival for brand-new music theater. On the site of the former Kindl brewery in Berlin-Neukölln, Schall&Rausch invites you to celebrate burning issues and experimental music with pop-cultural glitz and glamour. Unafraid of melodies, beats and strobes, the Komische Oper Berlin brings the music theater to glow for ten days: Performance meets concert, professionals meet amateurs, local meets international.

… Gig Theatre “Spectacles”
Director, singer and shooting star of the Belgian performing arts, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, together with music producer and curator Laurens Mariën and dancer Hanako Hayakawa, tries his hand at new love rituals and dreams up a world where people gather around poppy bonfires and fuel the sparkling power of spectacle. Theater and music become a time machine. Meirhaeghe himself becomes the figure of the fool at the wheel, as the epitome of irrational, passionate and critical impudence. Bound neither to values nor norms, he travels forward into the past, backward into the future, and encounters love in constantly new guises. With a mixture of operatic dada-blues-punk-pop, music and dance, hieroglyphics and holograms, high voice and deep bass, Spectacles is the prelude to the new format series Gig Theatre, between music gig and theater performance, and calls, in the spirit of Schall&Rausch, for more and new spectacles and experiences!
