In February 2023, the Komische Oper Berlin will give the starting signal for Schall&Rausch – the new, annual festival for brand-new music theater. On the site of the former Kindl brewery in Berlin-Neukölln, Schall&Rausch invites you to celebrate burning issues and experimental music with pop-cultural glitz and glamour. Unafraid of melodies, beats and strobes, the Komische Oper Berlin brings the music theater to glow for ten days: Performance meets concert, professionals meet amateurs, local meets international.

Falling into a trance is unavoidable in Tianzhuo Chen‘s artistic and critical self-exploration. The title of this twelve-hour performance is programmatic: between ritual and club culture, Tianzhuo Chen and his conjurors invite us to immerse ourselves in an immersive cosmos. To wander between a collection of homo sapiens and aliens without identities, speed gurus and spiritual ninjas, rainbow monsters and sedated spirits, bony romance and cosmic inferno. Dance in the city blues, let your ears be hypnotized, and chase intoxication until the sun goes down.
In six chapters and within half a day, Trance combines traditional rituals and narratives with a fantasized future, inspired by science fiction, and at the same time builds a bridge to the techno-futuristic here and now. It is up to each individual to take the step into this transcendental world, whose reality expands and stretches, and to experience the psychedelic variety of meditating, expanding, extremely fast and extremely slow dancing bodies and beings.
