In June 2022 we dragged a sound system – one we had just finished setting up – into a beautiful loft in North Berlin and held our first function. We didn’t know what we were up to at that moment, but we had conviction. Alexander Nut – our first ever guest – did just what we had imagined: Soundtrack a dance that is meant to be soulful, with no constraints to style, tempo or form.
Witnessing the beauty of that gathering, we channelled its DIY spirit and kept on moving. Inviting many of our favourite selectors and musicians to join us on stage or behind the decks, we felt like our mission grew larger through the many dances we held. A community of likeminded people was forming around us, and in November 2024 our compilation SHUSH Vol. 1 found its way into the world, etching our musical ethos into wax.
On June 14, we’re inviting you to very special gathering at Studio dB in Berlin – to celebrate our third anniversary. To mark the occasion, we’ve put together a musical programme that we couldn’t be more thrilled about.
Making his SHUSH return is one of the most exciting and uncompromisingly imaginative selectors and producers, Julion De’Angelo from Detroit. Through a string of releases (on his own label Maybee Hill Records, as well as imprints such as Sound Signature or Vision Recordings) and his fabled sets, he’s been commanding dancefloors worldwide.
Next to him, we’re honoured to present the live debut of Oraculu – led by dear friend and talented producer/DJ Two Thou. With a spellbinding release last year, the experimental outfit sits in the space between jazz and electronics. Featuring likeminded souls Monica Mussungo and El Congo Allen, this performance will be one for the books.
If you’ve been to our dances, SHUSH co-founders and resident DJs Ken Okuda, Orlando Rosé and D’Monk are no strangers to you and your eardrums, all bringing their distinct flavours and sensibilities to the table. Last but not least, we have two of Berlin’s most revered percussionists – Ekowmania & K’Boko – joining by injecting their rhythm and feel to the dancefloor.
To celebrate the occasion, we will have limited merch – screen-printed posters and shirts – for sale. Deepest gratitudes to the immensely talented Nick Dahlen wo worked with us to craft this beautiful artwork, and to Anna Ntombi Marx for the poster design.
That’s it for now. We will be keeping you updated, and we’re looking forward to celebrating with you on June 14.
See you on the floor
