Caner Teker creates new queer spaces by appropriating techniques of Turkish oil wrestling (Yağlı Güreş). In this traditional martial art, two oiled wrestlers wearing buffalo skin pants try to push their opponent’s shoulders to the ground. The two marginalized performers in “Kırkpınar” break with these hypermasculine power dynamics and put questions of vulnerability and intimacy first.
** RELAXED PERFORMANCE **
Relaxed Performances are aimed at all those who feel more comfortable in a laid-back and sensorially relaxed atmosphere. Sounds and movement in the audience are explicitly allowed, and those who prefer lying down or need a break in between are welcome to do so.
