A journey through repetition, ecstasy and transformation, choreographer and dancer Igor Shyshko’s performance “SPELL” premieres at the VOICES festival at Radialsystem. Two dancers and a live musician create a whirlpool of contemplation on the state of the world.
“SPELL” is a ritual choreography concerning exhaustion and the ambiguity of repetition. Repetition contains an almost magical power: the continuously recurring execution of the same gesture imbues it with defiant power, transforming it into a form of political resistance. “SPELL” is an embodied incantation that defies the powerlessness of our daily resistance to the chaos surrounding us. With a magical gesture, we reclaim our everyday actions and recast them in a dynamic web of somatic reinterpretations.
