Like a music fairytale: the iHeartBerlin picnic at Staatsoper für Alle

Like a music fairytale: the iHeartBerlin picnic at Staatsoper für Alle

Summer arrives with one of our favorite events of the year: “Staatsoper für Alle” – the annual open-air classical music festival on Bebelplatz. And as every year, we have another special picnic pop-up for our readers to win seats for.

Emotions, pathos, singing, and fans: what sounds like a short and sweet description of the currently omnipresent European Football Championship applies just as much to the world of opera. And every summer, one of the core objectives of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden is to bring opera to life for everyone.

Every year, Bebelplatz is transformed into a fantastic backdrop for classical and opera music.  As part of the free open-air concert Staatsoper für Alle on July 12 and 13, fans of classical music and those who might want to become one can let themselves be carried away by the music of the Staatskapelle Berlin. So if you want to use the break in the European Championship drama on both days to indulge in the drama of the opera, you can simply drop by at the free event. And even if you weren’t a fan of opera music in the past, attending this event may change your perspective.

Last year alone, over 33,000 people came to Bebelplatz to listen to the musical sounds of Verdi and Bruckner. This year, the opera performance of Melancholy of Resistance will be broadcast live on 12.7. and on 13.7. Wagner and Strauss are on the program, whose timeless pieces deal with the twists and turns of love and human nature.

Be there – our picnic pop-up at Staatsoper für Alle
As we know that all this can be overwhelming for those who have never attended this event before or have had little exposure to classical music, we at iHeartBerlin give our readers the opportunity to experience this event in a more intimate circle every year. We are giving away 3×2 places for a picnic with us before and after the concert.

Dates of the picnic:
Date: 13.07, 19.00
Place: Bebelplatz
Participants: You & your BFF
What: Live concert by the Staatskapelle

Although the joint picnic with our readers has now become a tradition, it remains a very special kind of get-together that is as unique each time as the people we get to meet.

To make the picnic a visual and culinary delight, this year PicknickDeluxe 030 is equipping us with their amazing setup and delicacies from Meo Meo’s Kitchen, which are not only pretty to look at but also incredibly tasty. Meo Meo’s Kitchen is run by Kim and her husband Tuan. They are well known in the Berlin street food scene and have permanent stalls in Mauerpark on Sundays and in Thaipark on Saturdays and Sundays. Together with Katharina the founder from PicknickDeluxe030, they now also offer picnic boxes and catering for large groups.

To take part in the raffle for a place on our picnic blanket, simply do the following:
1. Follow us on Instagram to make sure our messages get through to you if you win.
2. Comment on this post with your favorite opera and tag your friend who you would like to take with you.
3. Check your inbox on 10.7. – we’ll let the winners know via DM.

Staatsoper für Alle is organized by the Staatsoper Berlin in collaboration with its long-standing partner BMW, which supports the opera in making this event free for everyone and providing access to classical music.

The Visitors: A Slasher Horror of Current Realities

The Visitors: A Slasher Horror of Current Realities

Advert.

Today we have the pleasure and honor to help spread the word about a very special theater piece returning to the stage of Volksbühne Berlin on June 28-30: The Visitors by Constanca Macras / Dorkypark.

Macras has never been shy of taking a swing at big socio-political and socio-economic topics in her pieces such as gentrification, statelessness, migration, or marginalization. The Visitors is no exception here, as it deals with the consequences of Apartheid which is still a burning issue today. Especially, in times like these, it’s important for us to listen to the discourse in the arts and culture world, to counterbalance the noises of social media and ramblings of populism.

Where Did All The Romance Go?

Where Did All The Romance Go?

Is everyone on a love diet now? Love is treated in a similarly small-minded way, like the pleasure of giving gifts, which has fallen into disrepute for years.

People are just as stingy with love as they are with everything else. The only exception is self-love. It seems one can’t be generous enough when it comes to this topic. Charity and romantic love are often left to starve. Everyone goes to therapy, but hardly anyone does voluntary work.

iHeartBerlin’s New Mini-Collection – Why We’re Releasing Fashion Now

iHeartBerlin’s New Mini-Collection – Why We’re Releasing Fashion Now

For the casual consumer of our content, it might have come as a bit of a random surprise when we recently dropped our mini collection. For those of you who have been following us a bit longer, you might know we do release the occasional physical product, but those were mostly books. So why switch from print to clothing you might wonder? Well, it’s a little bit back to the roots for us, because that’s how we first started our foray into the world of physical things. Between 2012 and 2013, we designed several small collections of clothes and accessories in collaboration with different brands.

The new collection is both in reference to these first steps of making products, but also an homage to our origins as Berlin’s number-one party blog. Nightlife is what made us pop back then, and it’s still what makes our hearts beat today so we wanted to capture that in our collection.

Stay The Same – Or Change?

Stay The Same – Or Change?

The year is young, relatively at least. We still have about three-quarters of the year left to implement what we set out to do a few months ago. According to Alain de Botton: “If you’re not ashamed of who you were last year, you’re probably not learning enough.”

New Year is used as an opportunity to reflect and admit that some things must change. Many of us take a tough but fair look at ourselves and conclude that we are not satisfied with how things are going. Time to break old patterns. Then there are also those who claim it is a cliché wanting to change once a year. Some even mock this opportunity to reflect.

The New Place for Luxurious Moments: The Moët & Chandon Bar Berlin

The New Place for Luxurious Moments: The Moët & Chandon Bar Berlin

Advert.

Berlin has a very special new place for the exclusive moments in life: The elegant Moët & Chandon Bar Berlin on the legendary food floor ‘Die Sechste’ of KaDeWe has recently opened, serving an exquisite selection of finest champagnes, cocktails, and delicate snacks – a bar of its own kind. Following the opening of the very first Moët & Chandon Bar at renowned Harrods in London last year, the first one in Germany has followed in the famous department store KaDeWe in Berlin. But let’s quickly rewind a few decades for a little trip back to a time long before iHeartBerlin: Back in the late 2000s, the KaDeWe was already an It-place that enjoyed worldwide fame and was a favorite for all Berliners. Especially the gourmet floor convinced me.  It was pure fascination when I was younger. For years this became a special place for me where I could escape the daily life every now and then to treat myself. read more…

Sustainable Listening #4 – How the Future of Food can Save the Planet

Sustainable Listening #4 – How the Future of Food can Save the Planet

Our next chapter of the event series Sustainable Listening together with Staatsoper Berlin combined culinary innovation and climate responsibility. Themed around the food system and the Planetary Health Diet, this unique gathering blended classical and electronic music, creating a sensory journey into the realms of food and sustainability.

Despite inflation hitting the gastronomy scene, Berlin continues to offer an impressive range of culinary delights from around the world and for different pockets. The city’s commitment to vegan and vegetarian cuisine is evident, although the numbers show there’s still progress to be made. With only 5% of restaurants being exclusively plant-based, and 20% offering vegetarian or vegan menus, Berlin’s food landscape reflects a growing, shift towards sustainable eating.

Pansy Presents Halloween 2023 at SO36

Pansy Presents Halloween 2023 at SO36

After doing her thing in the far West of Berlin for the past year, PANSY is back at it again in Kreuzberg at the iconic SO36 – a club with such a rich history reaching all the way back into the days of David Bowie and Iggy Pop. This month she is doing not one but two events there – the first one being her big Halloween spectacle that happened earlier this week and brought back some of her favorite drag performers and friends to the stage for some bloody fun.

PANSY’s Halloween events are truly legendary. Of course a lot of events and parties slap the word Halloween into their title these days, but let’s be honest, most of them will not diverge much from their regular program and not a lot of guests will really dress up for the occasion. It’s also not really in the spirit of Halloween to move the event conveniently to the weekend. It is, after all, a holiday on the 31st of October – for a reason.

10s Across the Board: A Ballroom Showdown for the Trophy

10s Across the Board: A Ballroom Showdown for the Trophy

The Berlin Ballroom Scene has been cooking something up over the past months that finally came to light this past weekend. With the event “10s Across the Board: A Ballroom Showdown for the Trophy” the local scene took a new format to the stage of Theater des Westens that has never been done before in Berlin. It proposes an alternative to classic Balls with their competitions and battles on the runway, elevating Ballroom from the underground to the limelight of the big theater stages of the city.

Two Ballroom Legends are behind this spectacle: Mother Leo from the House of Saint Laurent and Mother Ambrosia from the House of Gorgeous Gucci. They teamed up with Tingel Tangel – the new program at Theater des Westens – to create something truly unique and fantastic.
