On Tuesday the Dandy Diary x Facehunter Fashion Week Opening Party took place at the circus tent at Postbahnhof. It was quite the crazy event with freaky costumed people, tons of hot male models and the hosts arriving on a real elephant. I’m so glad I made it to the party and wish I could have stayed longer. Our pro-active blogger colleagues and sexbombs of Dandy Diary are at it again getting their fingers in the Berlin fashion scene. After their huge success story of the Dandy Diary Fashion Week party and multiple fashin films they are now stirring up the German Press Days with the #dandydiaryspace that is going to be open this week at Rosenthaler Platz with a daily program of fashion-related events. Today they start the week with the launch of the new limited edition T-Shirt collection by Hood by Air with New York-based photographer Kevin Amato who will also showcase some of his work there. During the week there will also be a “Dandy Talk”, a fashion presentation by Paris-based avant-garde streetwear label ASSK and a couple of parties. Monday was a very special night for me. It was not just the first night of Fashion Week. The coolest, most fashionable man in town was doing a pool party. Yes, I am talking about David from the blog Dandy Diary. Can you believe this man is straight? Finally, it’s like some poor fashion girl went to heaven and said to God: “Common, not all fashionable man can be gay. Please give us girls just one man who knows how to dress with a bang and still wants to rip my dress of me.” And then God sent David to the girls in Berlin. A new, exceptionally nice speakeasy bar called ROOK opened a few weeks ago in a place where you, dear readers, would probably least expect it: in an old water tower in Cologne. Yes, you’ve read it right – it’s not about Berlin today, but about a thing that we in Berlin are especially crazy about: secret bars in hidden locations.
In a world of the Internet and smartphones, where all information is constantly accessible, the concept of speakeasy bars is more attractive than ever. It’s no wonder, since nothing tastes sweeter than a secret that you only share with a few people. We’ve known that this rule applies to the club and bar scene for ages.
That’s why it’s totally understandable that also the ROOK team decided in favor of such an idea. A few months ago, Luisa und Rike entered the Shape Your City competition organized by the international premium beer brand Heineken with their own bar concept. They managed to win over the Jury, composed of, among others, the restaurateurs Philipp Treudt and Tobias Mintert, as well as our Berlin blogger-colleagues from Dandy Diary. ROOK is the result of a cooperation with Heineken and celebrated its opening on the 18th November 2016. This coming Friday, the Dandy Diary members of the jury are going to throw a party in the location that they’ve helped to single out. More about that later in the text!
Urban Life is a human paradox by itself. We live between grey concrete walls just to realize that we would rather paint them with graffiti. We turned our back on the countryside just to build urban gardens on our rooftops and choose the anonymity and isolation of big cities, just to connect through social networks for joined nightlife experiences.
But it is not a coincidence that cities like Berlin become a canvas for creativity for all of us. To realize what kind of potential is in our surrounding, we need people who make the first step for us, who take the first brush of paint so we are able to see the free canvas space. The new Heineken campaign “Build your Bar – Shape your City” is dedicated to those individuals making our urban life a bit better day by day. Heineken has shown a long-term commitment in creative innovative concepts for urban life already with their “Cities” Campaign. But “Shape your City” is going even a step further. Everybody who wants to create an innovative bar concept for his hometown can participate in this creative contest. Your idea will be judged by no other than our blogger colleagues Jacob and David from Dandy Diary, gastronomy experts Tobias Mintert & Philipp Treudt and Team-Heineken Germany.
Now is your chance to feel inspired and see your city as a canvas for your creativity. On the Heineken campaign page you can submit your best idea for an innovative Bar concept that will change your street, your neighborhood and your city’s nightlife. You are not only competing for an amazing experience but also for the expertise to implement your concept: Heineken and the two gastronomy experts will help you realize your concept and open the bar in a totally new space. The countdown has begun: In just a few days – from September 2nd till 4th to be exact – the new Bread&Butter by Zalando is happening at Arena Berlin. The consumer trend show has the theme “NOW” this year and will be celebrating what is hot in fashion, music and food. Have a look at the program and line-up now to get an idea.
The Bread&Butter has quite a long and diverse history. It started off in Cologne in 2003, but then moved to Berlin and later Barcelona for a while where it rose to international fame, before returning to Berlin to become one of the major events of Berlin Fashion Week. But as many of you have probably noticed it stopped happening a couple of seasons ago. But this was not the end, it was a necessary period of transition and reinvention. Now it’s back, rising like a phoenix from the ashes and everything is different! What happened? And why should we care? Here’s the break-down..
So you finally made it into the club! Now what?
After spending hours reading blog after blog about how to get into <insert your favorite Berlin nightclub>, you are finally ready to put on your dancing shoes and experience Berlin nightlife firsthand. Your outfit is on point (aka black). You managed to queue for over an hour without cracking a smile, much less breathe. You researched who was DJing and successfully memorized enough German to confidently tell the door guy how many people were in your party (Ich bin allein, danke). Congrats! You’re in. Now it’s time to have some fun.
Wait, not so fast. Just because you managed to fool the staff into thinking you’re a regular doesn’t mean that you’re ready to hit the dance floor quite yet. Another Berlin Fashion Week starts today! And what’s hot this season? Our avant-garde favorite is collaborating with contemporary dance at Radialsysteme V, Dandy Diary teamed up with adidas for their popular Fashion Week party, the Berlin Fashion Film Festival is getting together with the LNFA store and YDL Fashion Network, there is gonna be another #FASHIONTECH conference about the future of fashion and Kaltblut Magazine is presenting a couple of labels at Happy Shop. If there is one thing you can definitely experience in Berlin than it’s an unforgettable night. Berlin is so famous for it’s pulsating nightlife with the streets full of people moving from one bar, club, bistro and Späti to another like a big beehive. You have something for everyone here, all styles of music, fashion and fetish you can imagine. It’s a wild jungle that can be overwhelming at first but is one of the most fun places to be in the world.
We’ve been going out here now for way over 10 years and as much fun as we had it’s simply impossible to pick one special night that we could share with you. Instead, we wanna turn it around and give our readers a little advice on how to have an unforgettable night in Berlin, or more specifically: where? It’s hard to believe, with all the different guides we’ve written over the past years we never did a club guide! This needs to change so it’s happening today: We chose our 10 favorite clubs in Berlin.

If you think the Tempelhof Airport is the only airport in and around Berlin that has found a new meaning and a second life, you probably haven’t heard of the former military airport of Finowfort that is about an hour outside of Berlin near Eberswalde. I first heard of this airport through our blogger colleagues from Dandy Diary who shot the lookbook for their amazing travel backpack with Harris Tweed and Johnnie Walker Black Label there a couple of months ago. In the haunting photos you see what looks like an abandoned old airport with a couple of overgrown hangars and rusty old military planes. In fact the airport is not quite as dead as it looks in the photos from the lookbook as it is home to an airport museum showing a lot of classic small planes and technical equipment of the old airport. They also host a couple of special events over the course of the year such as old timer fairs and car races, miniature plane model conventions and more. I think the place has a lot to offer in terms of stunning visuals and interesting historic memories.
