The final days of summer are upon us, and soon Berlin will descend into its dark and dismal winter. There are many other reasons to come to Berlin apart from the clubs but they are definitely among the most popular ones. Techno has its roots in Detroit and the Afrofuturism movement but both the name and the current widespread popularity have to do with what it evolved into in Berlin.
While these parties are still relatively underground in many cities, Berlin has embraced rave culture and built a special relationship with its clubs and their audience. Berghain has already secured legal status as a cultural institution, and other clubs are fighting for the same. Club tourists are also valued by the city’s government as a major contribution to the economy.
It’s summertime and open airs are the true love of the city! Who doesn’t love a cold beer in the sun, while dancing to mellow beats by the water? Berlin’s summer period is short but sweet, so you gotta know your best spots to drop by during the week or (reasonable as you are) at the weekend to enjoy a drink, a little dance and a chat while sunsets draw us in like moths to a flame and the following city nights are long and warm. To ensure you summertime fun we put together our favorite outdoor open-air clubs, that will give you serious festival feels in the middle of the city – yaass to that!

The first day of a new week is waiting in the wings. While some are still lying in their beds getting the sleep they need for their first working day of the week, the party crowds are just stepping out of clubs after a weekend of partying – enjoying the last hours of an amazing weekend.
For almost two years the Berlin-based photographer Moritz Jekat has walked the streets at 6 am on Monday mornings searching for these party people. He photographed the young folks who danced the night away and just stepped out of clubs like Kater Holzig, Kater Blau, About Blank, Golden Gate, Berghain and Renate.

From cheap, awesome gays bars such as Möbel Olfe to highly sexual institutions like Lab.Oratory, it is no secret that Berlin’s queer scene has been under the spotlight for a long time now. Considering the fact that parties like Homopatik are causing insanely long queues in front of ://about blank every month, one might be tempted to argue that what was long meant as safe haven for the queer community has slowly become a refuge for straight people wanting to have their cake and eat it too…
It’s Halloween this week and everybody is talking about what costume they will be wearing. Shame it’s right in the middle of the week, so a few parties have actually moved to the weekend. But still there is loads of scary stuff going on this Wednesday! This and other events after the jump.

Have a laugh when that bloke from work stumbles around without control or people kiss in the corners who really aren’t supposed to kiss. It’s afterhour. It is different though, but why?
