A Night of Italian Food Culture with Bertolli in Berlin

A Night of Italian Food Culture with Bertolli in Berlin

While the grey November is already in full swing, we had the chance to escape the cold and darkness of Berlin Winter for one night. We recently had the chance to travel with our eyes and our taste buds to one of our favorite countries to visit for holidays: Italy.

The Italian olive oil brand Bertolli invited us to take part in a workshop about Italian food culture. Together with 10 other media colleagues, we spend an evening with Aperol Spritz, little Italian delicacies and lots and lots and lots of different oil blends to taste.

Caffè Torino: An Italian Aperitivo in Berlin

Caffè Torino: An Italian Aperitivo in Berlin

One of my favorite Italian traditions that I have always enjoyed so much when I was there is the Aperitivo. And by that I don’t mean a simply fizzy drink before I dinner, I mean the whole ritual that comes attached to that. The meeting in a bar in the early evening, enjoy a good drink and snack from a delicious buffet full of Italian delicacies. When you hear “Aperitivo” in Germany you will most likely only get the drink – very few bars offer the entire experience, the Bar Milano or the event series Aperitivo a Berlino being the few exceptions. But thankfully this has just changed as we just got a new Aperitivo bar in Berlin…

True Italian: Where to enjoy the best Italian Food in Berlin?

True Italian: Where to enjoy the best Italian Food in Berlin?

Food culture is nothing you are supposed to take lightly. Especially when you have Italian origins. Food is love, passion, dedication and joy. There is no better way to get closer to other human beings than sharing a meal and a good drink. When I was younger and living in a smaller town (in East Germany) a good meal was something I could only enjoyed at home (because restaurants in East Germany pretty much failed at that). When I moved to Berlin I discovered the diversity of the gastronomy here and I was especially surprised that I could enjoy so many authentic Italian meals so far away from the land of my origin (now I sound like a grandpa).

But let’s face the facts. Berlin is also full of places that are not authentic and not the best. Our friends and food lovers from Berlino Magazine did not stand the fact that there are so many wannabe Italian restaurants only serving the mediocre cliche dishes (Pizza, Pasta, Lasagne, you name it) and so many Berliners did not get to enjoy the real authentic and special recipes only Italians know and like. Italian food culture has such a variety of amazing dishes that deserve to be known and appreciated that they started the 72hrs True Italian Food Festival. Starting this Thursday September 28nd at 19h until Sunday evening October 1st 2017, over 50 Italian restaurants, pizzerias, wineries, bakeries and bars will offer their own specialties to all Berliners for just 7 EUR including a glass of wine.

An Aperitivo a Berlino on the Roof

An Aperitivo a Berlino on the Roof

Summer is in full bloom, and finally you can enjoy the weekends in the warm sun. What could be better than to get yourself an aperitif after a stressful week and experience the Italian feeling?

Traditionally in Italy, wonderful late afternoons are spent with friends in a bar, drinking a cold Negroni and eating delicious snacks. For such offerings we already introduced you to the Bar Milano in Berlin Mitte and now we want to expand on our recommendations and share a way for a sparkling start to Saturdays.

The event series Aperitivo a Berlino ties in with the beloved Italian tradition. It all started with two boys from Berlin who invited some friends and acquaintances to Sale e Tabacchi and had a great evening of drinking various aperitifs and eating small Italian appetizers. Now as the Italian afternoon is becoming increasingly popular, the Aperitivo has been moving around to several places such as Bar Milano (on vacation till September) and currently takes place on a wonderful rooftop on Linienstrasse in Berlin Mitte. See more details and have a look at the pictures from last time after the jump.

Bar Milano – An Aperitivo in Berlin

Bar Milano – An Aperitivo in Berlin

Since our recent trip to Milan Claudio and I have been totally into the concept of the Aperitivo. And by that we don’t mean just the regular old Aperol Spritz, but the entire ritual of an Aperitivo that includes not only a drink but also some delicious snacks that come either as a buffet or as a platter. In Berlin we are blessed with many Italian restaurants and delis, also wine bars. But we haven’t come across a place that offers a real Aperitivo like in Italy. Well, until now at least.

Recently the new Bar Milano opened at Brunnenstraße near Rosenthaler Platz finally bringing the Aperitivo to Berlin. And how gorgeous it is! They serve the most gigantic Aperol Spritz I’ve had so far and with the passion and love for good food and drinks the owners Eya and Kappa also know how to mix it to perfection. Of course this is not the only drink they serve, as there are so many other exquisite variations of this drink as well as other classics such as the Negroni or Prosecco. Every drink is served with a platter of delicious Italian snacks with the best ingredients like Bruschetti and small Parma ham sandwiches. But there is also a variety of other dishes that you can order such as a Carpaccio of the finest Prosciutto and Parmigiano. We’ve had a little tasting of a few things from the menu and it was all absolutely amazing! Of course everything comes straight from Italy and is served in authentic Italian tradition. We definitely recommend this great new bar and can’t wait to have our next half-liter glass of Spritz. Some impressions after the jump.
