Most cinema lovers observe what is happening at the Cannes, Venice and Sundance Film Festivals, even if they cannot attend. The programs always look promising and leave us with excitement and hope that the films will one day make it to our local cinemas. Unfortunately, quite a few movies never receive distribution deals, leaving a wider audience unable to see it. Luckily there are lovers of film like Hannes Brühwiler, who help films they believe in reach the silver screen in Berlin!
Hannes’s Festival is poetically called Unknown Pleasures and screens an amazing selection of American independent movies. The festival runs from June 3rd until June 16th 2016 at Arsenal and Il Kino. Christopher Walken in ‘Made from Cool’ by Martin Werner
For our second special we have teamed up with this year’s edition of the Berlin Fashion Film Festival that is going into it’s third round next week on July 9 and 10. It’s impressive how the little festival has developed into such a big thing in such a short amount of time. This year they host several public screenings at the Arsenal Kino during Berlin Fashion Week on Wednesday where you can see fashion films with famous Hollywood actors such as Christopher Walken, Javier Bardem, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, and Jessica Chastain. Not bad, huh? You should get your tickets here. And to put a cherry on top they invited famous Russian artist Andrey Bartenev to give a runway presentation of his bubbely sculptural design performances at the award show on Thursday evening. It’s Berlin Fashion Week! If you think that doesn’t influence the film scene, think again. Fashion is certainly a part of each and every film, but there is also the new genre of Fashion Films. Being the festival lover I am, the Berlin fashion Film Festival is definitely one of my highlights this week. The festival takes place from June 2nd through 4th there are three nights of screenings and a big closing party with DJ Hell at Arena Club on Wednesday Night. And although seeing Wes Andersons short work for Prada will probably be a different experience from seeing one of his feature films at a big festival I’m sure it won’t be any less exciting!
