Would you believe that even after 20 years in a city you would still be able to discover something you’ve never seen before? I am very confident in my knowledge about Berlin, but this weekend I was again surprised to stumble onto something that has always been there, but I never came by nor heard of it. I’m talking about the English Garden in Tiergarten. I know this park is very big and there are probably many things in it, that many of you might not have discovered yet, but I’ve been there so many times, how on earth did I miss this incredibly charming garden?
I’m glad that I discovered it now, with the beautiful colors of Autumn making it look even more magical. I think I haven’t been to an enchanting place like that in quite some time! It felt almost like in a completely different part of the world. And there are a few things to find there: A cafe and restaurant called Teehaus that looks quite nice, a classical flower garden, a part that looks a bit like a botanical garden with lots of different bushes and plants, a big pond with a mystical weeping willow tree.

Autumn is upon us! It’s the time of the year when we walk over Warschauer Brücke and an icy wind tells us mercilessly that we put the wrong jacket on. It’s that time when we find ourselves paralyzed in our local supermarket while looking at a shelf full of “Lebkuchenherzen” and “Glühwein”. The time, when you should get that fur coat out of the closet and at last, it does NOT make sense anymore to buy these sandals on sale. Wasn’t it just spring? Didn’t you wanna go to all of the lakes? Well, the time for bikinis and sunscreen is over. The colder months are coming. And there are very different ways of dealing with that fact in this city. Here are 5 types of Berliners in the Fall that you might know too well.

Countless words have been written on the magnificence of the Berliner Summer and its superiority to cold seasons of the German capital. Yet, I cannot stop thinking why we need to compare such dissimilar cases. Fall and Winter in Berlin can be tough even for the ones, who grew up here, with regard to the weather. Thankfully, there are always viewpoints of people who do not fixate on how many degrees above or below zero the temperature is, but focus on the beauty that lies in every situation instead. Watching the following video by Chloé Schnorhk, one cannot help but be positively surprised by her black and white take on the city with the numerous faces. The music of the cello in the background reminds me of the heyday of the European cinema. While I was watching this, I could not stop wondering how come Woody Allen has not shot a film here yet.

One of the major aims we have here on the blog is to find ways for you to have an amazing time in Berlin. Regardless if you live here or if you are just visiting, we want you to make the most of this amazing city and have an unforgettable time here. With our guides and reviews we’re offering a lot of recommendations on what to do here – with our recent collaboration with Priceless® Berlin we have also introduced you to a whole new spectrum of unique experiences from culinary delights to fun adventures.
But what makes an experience really unique and unforgettable? It’s not really as easy as it sounds. We thought a lot about this, because we wanted to create our own “priceless” event for you. As the season of cosy nights at home and lovely holiday dinners is approaching we decided that we wanted to do something related to amazing food. So we sat down with someone who really knows something about excellent food: our Blogfabrik colleague Sophia Hoffmann, who recently published her second amazing cookbook “Vegan Queens”. Together we developed a dinner event of a different kind. “Harvest Muse” turned out to much more than just a dinner party. For the delight of our guests Sophia created something that could almost be described as an altar of the fruits of Autumn – a beautiful food installation that was first admired and photographed and than later devoured by the attendants. In a short interview Sophia explains how the idea came up and what other advice she can give to our readers on how to host an unforgettable dinner.

Their name fits Berlin’s quality of being a playground for grown-ups. Here you can try out all your crazy ideas and it doesn’t matter if you succeed or fail, it’s all about living it out. For the street art crew TOY this is true in the most literal sense.
Just last week we chuckled about their live intervention with an S-Bahn train that received some flower pots glued to their windows. And this week we received yet another, even more spectacular one: They filled up a wagon of the U-Bahn with Autumn leaves and played around in the fun mess. But how do you get dozens of huge garbage bags full of leaves into the train without being noticed? Their latest intervention video shows how it was done…

Autumn: the time of the year, when everything goes back into place; most people are back from their holidays in their “normal” life with all the responsibilities and struggles that come along with it. This change or rather transition is also reflected in the weather: temperatures decrease a bit but not to the point of forcing you to resemble an eskimo and the atmosphere is imbued with an impeccable nostalgia for the end of the Summer and all that you experienced in combination with a curiosity and motivation to see how your upcoming plans and life will develop.
Nature plays along having her countless leaves in beautiful, earthy colors that decorate the soulless concrete of the streets and pavements as well as parks. Although it does not fulfill the criteria of nice weather Autumn really does capture nature’s alternative beauty.

Open Airs, basking in the sun at the river bank, losing the count of beers you had from the Späti, walking down the street just like pretty woman or forgetting the dimension of time at Sisyphos start to resemble a lot magical exhibits in a museum, that during the night come alive and engage in unforgettable adventures, but when the sun rises they all turn into immobile objects devoid of any indication of life or recollection of what just happened.
With the advent of the cloudy days, Berlin is officially entering its not that bright and lively season. It is true that there are great differences in people’s way of living and the Berliner atmosphere between the warm and the cold time of year.

One year in Berlin, an anniversary of sorts. This is my story of this utterly relenting city. A tale comprised of four distinct seasons, three apartments, numerous jobs, countless fleeting friendships and one difficult language. It is about a city of immense density caught between the heavy weight of its past and the inexplicable light and freedom that shines from the darkest of places.
This city that I now call home is something extraordinary, an anomaly. It has progressed into its next chapter, following the contours of history, flourishing into a liberal and cultural hub. It has changed from all recognition and proliferated into a city of tolerance and acceptance, a place where people are free from judgement, and even freer to express themselves. Yet I have felt Berlin’s depth.
This is my time in Berlin.
