Showing over 100 of the latest curated fashion films, a full day of talks by industry leaders and an evening of awards and bare skin, the Berlin Fashion Film Festival is finally here. Highlighting the rise of fashion using film as its main platform, fashion branding has evolved into something artistic, evocative, and best of all, fun. The growing importance of the interdisciplinary approach to branding brings forth the growing global fashion film phenomenon. Gone are the days of the term “fashion” being used to describe what we wear–now, everything from music to cinematography comes into play. The Berlin Fashion Film Festival focuses on recognizing visual talent and connects filmmakers, producers, creative agencies and clients such as brands, labels, designers and fashion enthusiasts of all backgrounds. The BFFF Fashion Film Summit is coming to Astra Kulturhaus June 5th 2015, and will be followed by an awards show and after party. We’re giving away a pair of tickets to the festival, which will feature screenings, panel discussions and parties with influential established and up-and-coming talent. Click on to get a sneak peak at some of this year’s entries and enter to win a pair of tickets to the event. Read on…

Aspirational by Matthew Frost
Did January’s Fashion Week and February’s Berlinale leave you inspired? Thankfully, there’s a platform to unleash your ideas and creativity: The Berlin Fashion Film Festival. Since 2012, the BfFF has been an exciting event that takes place once a year to present the fashion film productions of creative minds in front of a festival jury. They hold open calls for submissions, and award the best films. When disciplines converge in art, it does more than bringing two mediums together. They are at once a reflector and propeller of one medium to the other. In the case of the BfFF, the short films I’ve seen cleverly unearthed the forms and textures of fashion through an experimentation and exploration of cinematic techniques. Click on to get a sneak peek of this year’s submissions, and don’t miss the deadline to enter your own film into the competition!

Next week on Wednesday the brand new Berlin Alternative Fashion Week launches its first edition with a colorful program of parties, shows, talks and a designer market. After several years of doing events during the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and the German Press Days we were of course excited about another opportunity to get our hands in the pie so we decided to host a new event during this new Fashion Week.
It is something that we meant to do for a long time but never came around to do it: Turn our Cinéma de Mode online column that we featured here on iHeartBerlin.de for many years before moving over to our partner Two For Fashion into a live event in a real cinema. So we asked our friends from the Berlin Fashion Film Festival to contribute some films, as well as the designers of the Berlin Alternative Fashion Week and mixed it with our own selection of our favorite films of the new genre and the result is going to be an entertaining program of fashionable short films and videos featuring Hollywood stars such as Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Walken for your viewing pleasure. Together with our friends from Two For Fashion we will invite you into the cinema of the former culturual institute of Czechoslowakia at Leizpziger Str. 60 (entrance Jerusalemer Str.) on Thursday October 2nd at 20h to enjoy our films of the Cinéma de Mode.
To get you into the mood we want to show you today the latest hyped fashion film about the selfie culture by Matthew Frost featuring Kirsten Dunst, as well as Frost’s previous other amazing films after the jump.

After last year’s crazy golden naked Haute Coiffure runway show of Charlie Le Mindu at Badeschiff the guys from the Berlin Fashion Film Festival invited Russian performance artist Andrey Bartenev and his happy bubbles to be the big show act for this year’s BfFF Award Show that took place at the former silent movie theater Delphi along with a live music performance of chart-topping Dutch act Kovacs. The show was absolutely out of control, joyful and crazy and we loved it. Our talented contributing photographer Olga Khristolyubova caught some shots for us backstage and during the performance by Bartenev. Enjoy the madness after the jump on 3 pages!

Christopher Walken in ‘Made from Cool’ by Martin Werner
For our second special we have teamed up with this year’s edition of the Berlin Fashion Film Festival that is going into it’s third round next week on July 9 and 10. It’s impressive how the little festival has developed into such a big thing in such a short amount of time. This year they host several public screenings at the Arsenal Kino during Berlin Fashion Week on Wednesday where you can see fashion films with famous Hollywood actors such as Christopher Walken, Javier Bardem, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, and Jessica Chastain. Not bad, huh? You should get your tickets here. And to put a cherry on top they invited famous Russian artist Andrey Bartenev to give a runway presentation of his bubbely sculptural design performances at the award show on Thursday evening. That’s going to be a mad affair for sure. Some preview videos, more photos and details, and your chance to win tickets for the screenings after jump.

Sopopular
Let’s face the facts: During Berlin Fashion Week in January and July there is just so much going on compressed in just a couple of days that it’s humanly impossible to make it to all the events that might interest you. So it’s a not a big surprise that some event organizers (including my own project Designer Scouts) have moved outside of Fashion Week to avoid these overcrowded days where everyone is just complaining how stressful everything is (first world problems…). The new fashion festival Berlin Dress would fit perfectly into the Fashion Week, but the organizers Berlin Pieces have decided to do it now in late August. I welcome that decision because in between Fashion Weeks there is so few fashion events going on in Berlin that I am happy that we have yet another. Find out more about it and win guestlist spots for the opening on Friday after the jump.

I love big hair. More hair you have more fun you are on the dance floor. There is nothing more electric than a girl who can show off her massive hair. If you don’t have so much, you don’t have to worry my dear fashionistas. The superman of wigs Charlie Le Mindu was in town for Fashion Week and we were all really impressed by his beautiful hair sculptures. His show Gold Sabah at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival over the pool of Badeschiff was BEYOND. I wanted to have nearly all his beautiful head pieces for my upcoming episodes. And well, maybe I will. See some backstage pictures and a video of his show after the jump.
