Amazing Berlin Short Films & Videos

Amazing Berlin Short Films & Videos

This city has always gone hand in hand with artistic creation, being generous in providing artists with a safe space to freely express themselves, as well as serve as a major aesthetic inspiration. Film makers in particular, often use Berlin’s diverse setting as their canvas upon which they unfold their  stories, each one triggered by a different aspect of life in this Wonderland. We are excited to present you these Berlin-themed short films, which capture Berlin’s unique vibe perfectly, and speak to all of us that are hypnotized by the city’s magic spell.

Berlin Film Night Encore & Party Photos

Berlin Film Night Encore & Party Photos

On Friday we hosted the second Berlin Film Night with Mobile Kino at Urban Spree Gallery. We took the opportunity of the Berlinale to work on our program of Berlin-related short films and videos from the last edition in September and added a bunch of new ones that we came across in the past few months. The turn-out was great, so many of you came and we will definately continue this format with the lovely guys of Mobile Kino. To celebrate our first Berlinale event (and also my birthday) we attached a little party to the screening with some of our DJ friends which was big fun. Enjoy the impressions after the jump on 2 pages (and don’t be surprised to see me in more photos than usual, it was my b’day after all…).

iHeartBerlin/ale Special: Berlin Film Night – Extended Encore & Party

iHeartBerlin/ale Special: Berlin Film Night – Extended Encore & Party

While we are normally quite active with our own events during Berlin Fashion Week we thought it was about time we also do something during Berlinale, as films have become such a big part of this blog. And what would fit better than the Berlin Film Night, that we did together with Mobile Kino back in September. The turn-out and response was so amazing and we all loved the selection of short films from various genres. It was our plan to give an encore screening of this for those who missed it and now seems to be the right time. To also make it interesting for those who enjoyed the first screening we extended the program with about half an hour of brand new short films. We are also still open to submissions of Berlin-related films and videos.

And as an iHeartBerlin event wouldn’t be the same without a party the screening will be followed by our iHeartBerlin/ale After Film Party. Both take place at the awesome Urban Spree gallery on the upcoming Saturday, Febuary 16th 2013. Find out more after the jump.

Berlin Film Night Winner

Berlin Film Night Winner

Together with the film curators of Mobile Kino our movie expert Lia compiled an amazing selection of Berlin-themed short films of all genres for our first Berlin Film Night that took place a month ago at out 5th Anniversary event at Naherholung Sternchen. The screening was a big success, so many of you came and we were very happy with the selection of films and the response to them. One of the perks of participating in this screening was the chance to be selected for a week-long screening in the program of the Babylon Cinema in Mitte. Out of the selection made by Lia and the Mobile Kino guys from all the submissions the creative director of the Babylon has now picked the film that will be shown on the big screen. We are very proud to finally announce the winner: Forever Passing Through by Mody Al Khufash and Thomas Sabel of Mothom Studio.

The film combines the genres of fashion and dance in a very unique and unexpected way. Shot at the iconic Haus der Kulturen der Welt with fashion design by Berlin-based label Issever Bahri it is inspired by Isidora Dunken’s dance philosophy. It’s about the freeing of the female body, moving away from rigid ballet technique and towards what she perceived as natural movement in connection with emotions. If you haven’t seen it yet you can enjoy the film in our Cinéma de Mode and soon at the big screen of Babylon Mitte. Congratulations to Mody and Thomas!

Cinéma de Mode: Forever Passing Through

Cinéma de Mode: Forever Passing Through

This fashion film was premiered at our Berlin Film Night last weekend and I was super proud to show it there cause it is one of the best fashion films I’ve ever seen. Forever Passing Through was made by art director Mody Al Khufash and director Thomas Sabel. It was shot at a very characteristic landmark of Berlin, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, also known as Die Schwangere Auster. I love the film as it has a very unique aesthetic, amazing styling and a brilliant and unexpected choreography. Every film maker who wants to make a fashion film should see this and be inspired before making yet another pointless fashion clip. Enjoy the film after the jump.

Berlin Film Night

Berlin Film Night

At 9 pm the lights went out at Naherholung Sternchen last Saturday Night. It was finally time to show the films Mobile Kino’s Joshua and I had selected for the Berlin Film Night, to the public. It was a great little program with a good mix of genres and topics. We screened music videos, fashion films, animation and narrative films and I think most of the audience quite enjoyed the first ever Berlin Film Night. The best part was that the combination of films gave a great summary of Berlin!

For all those who didn’t make it on Saturday or joined only later for the party, here are some of my favourites from the screening!

Also I want to take the opportunity and thank all of you who submitted or worked on one of the submitted films (screened or not) for your work. Of course a Berlin Film Night would not have been possible without your trust in us. So thank you for submitting your films and allowing us to screen them!

Ready, Set, GO!

Ready, Set, GO!

People love to compete and some would do anything to win. In movies people entering competition usually believe winning will change their life, but the way to success is long and rocky. This week I’ll take a look at what great films deal with various topics of racing toward a seemingly unreachable goal.

As I’m sure you’ve already heard iheartBerlin.de and Mobile Kino are hosting the very first Berlin Film Night, a one-night screening film festival on the topic of Berlin. Next week we will show you a selection of films visually or through it’s narration related to our beautiful city. And we are still looking for films. More after the jump.
