Berlin summers can be everything. They can be this steamy, sweaty, never-ending fantasy covered in a golden, glowy filter. They can, however, also not happen at all. So, you spend that first 26+ degrees day in late March or April inside thinking: “Well, summer’s only getting started, I’ll get my chance to tan. No worries”. And then you end up in late July looking at 14 degrees max, and clouds, clouds, clouds, plus thunderstorms, possibly. “Yeah, thanks Berlin!” Eyeroll. This lady is never to be trusted. What do we learn from this? In Berlin, we have to stick to very basic postcard philosophies and: “Carpe that diem!” When there’s sunshine and blue skies outside of our bedroom window we got a “Drop everything situation” going on. If this puts you in a state of shock and you’re catching your breath, we prepared a step-by-step plan of action for you.

Berlin never stops to deliver us new places to explore and fall in love with. Each year an abundance of new things pop up all over town, putting undiscovered areas on the map and adding new spice to already established ones.
The gastronomic newcomers of this years are particularly exciting and diverse and we had a bit of a hard time to choose the ones we want to present you here in our new guide. We especially love the fact that the style of kitchen is becoming more experimental and bringing some new trends into town, but also that interior and ambience continues to evolve.
Here’s our selection of the most exciting new restaurants in Berlin that you should check out in 2017.

Once its own borough, the district of Prenzlauer Berg now belongs to Pankow and is located right next to Mitte and Friendrichshain. Characterized by the five-story ‘Althaus’ with a closed courtyard in the back the typical Prenzlauer Berg block is very large. The district is dominated by broad tree-lined streets with colorful boutiques, restaurants and cosy cafes attracting a mix of stay-home moms and dads, freelancers and university students alike. Prenzlauer Berg can’t deny its creative and alternatively individual vibe with parks being taken over by children’s birthday parties clearly marked by burlaps and balloons under the tree, a broad range of organic food shops, hip new juice shops and a yoga studio on almost every corner. Learn more about this charming neighborhood’s highlights with our best-of guide to Prenzlauer Berg after the jump. Read on…

I’m a total breakfast person. Well, I’m a food person in general, but breakfast is the most important meal for me and even if I have a busy day ahead of me I will take my time and indulge in my daily breakfast routine.
I love eating out for breakfast with friends or for business meetings. It sets me in the perfect mood for just about anything the day may bring, to first be served coffee, scrambled eggs, pancakes or cakes. But sadly, the majority of cafes and restaurants don’t align with my nighthawk schedule and super-late breakfast sessions. I never understood why restaurants decide to limit the time they serve certain dishes even though they still have the same cook and the same ingredients in the house. It seems to be one of those German bureaucratic rules that you just have to oblige.
But Berlin wouldn’t be Berlin if there weren’t at least some places that operate outside of these silly rules. I have selected 8 of my favorite places that I gratefully visit on a regular basis for a little all-day breakfast guide for Berlin.
