If you are looking for a cute thing as a gift for a friend, loved one or even just for yourself it’s sometimes not so easy to know where to start looking, right? This was fun! On Friday we launched our new book Like A Berliner that we’ve been working on for the past 3 years with illustrator Sophia Halamoda and that is available to order now in our new online shop. We had the incredible honor of doing our party at Kantini in collaboration with Bikini Berlin. It was such a match made in heaven – the wonderful design of the place mixed with the cute illustrations of Sophia that we pasted all over the place.
To make the evening extra special we invited a couple of really unique performers to embody the spirit of our book and take our guests by the hand to make some memorable experiences. From Jennifer Aniston tarot readings by Esben Holk, to anti-confessions with Olympia Bukkakis, tactile sensations with crochet artist Anto Christ, fetish research with drag queen Purrja, and unsolicited plant advice by Miss Poppy Cox – there was something for everyone – and it was great fun. As a special treat, we invited The Darvish to give us a little belly dance, and boy did he deliver!

Get ready for something really exciting. For years now we have been quietly cooking up a very special project together with the talented illustrator Sophia Halamoda, whose amazing work we’ve been featuring on the blog for a few years now. You might remember her iconic Berghain comic, the hacks on how to become a “Real Berliner”, the Winter guide and the Flatmate Roulette. All of these beloved illustrated stories have just been the foreplay for something bigger: Our brand new big book “Like A Berliner” is coming out in just a few weeks is out now! It is most likely the cheekiest Berlin guidebook you’ve ever seen – and we‘re throwing hosted a party to celebrate its launch in collaboration with Bikini Berlin – the innovative concept mall in the West of Berlin.

Whether as nourishment for your nerves, a mood-lifter or a loving gift – chocolate is a special indulgence for every occasion. Us Germans truly love chocolate among all the other sweets the most. Per person, we eat about 9 kilos of chocolate each year – preferably full milk! For the sweet-toothed among our readers, we put together a great selection of the best chocolate makers and shops located in Berlin. I hope you have a piece of chocolate near you because, after this, you might be tempted to go out and get your sweet on!

I am a huge fan of creatively wrapped Christmas presents as I have previously proven with our Christmas wrapping guide. Of course, I was super excited to hear about the new Christmas special by Bikini Berlin that is all about artfully decorated presents. Following their tradition of previous seasons, they have once again installed a beautiful big wrapping station in the middle of the concept shopping mall where you can have your presents wrapped or get crafty and wrap them yourselves.
But it wouldn’t be Bikini Berlin if this would be some ordinary type of wrapping station. Once again they invited a local artist to not only design the special edition wrapping papers but also create an entire photo set that transforms the designs from the papers into a big colorful world to step into and take pictures in.

The Bikini Berlin is never short of a lovely surprise when it comes to using their amazing space for beautiful creative projects. Just like last year they have teamed up with an artist duo to transform the center of the concept shopping mall into a wonderland for the senses. Combining a fun photo wall, a greeting card station, a present wrapping service and a cute little winter punch booth the colorful illustrations of the lovely guys from Zebu magically materialized as a little playground full of curious animals and creatures.
The heart of the installation is the free Christmas wrapping service in the middle where you can bring all your Christmas presents to be masterfully wrapped in the exclusive paper designed by Zebu for Bikini Berlin. Or if you are crafty you can also swing the scissors and ribbons yourself at the big self-service tables. The paper comes with three artworks that represent different aspects of Christmas and embody the style of the two artists perfectly. The fact that they love to work with animals makes so much sense given you are looking straight into the monkey house of the Zoo right next to the mall through its big panorama window. In fact the sheets look so cool that you could as well frame them and hang them in your house as art prints.
The postcard station offers your the possibility to either send Christmas greetings to your loved ones (Bikini Berlin will cover the postage) or cut out and fold the animals to start your own little zoo. It’s all too cute!
