Last week we had the pleasure to be part of a very unique and very pink dinner event that was hosted by the lovely ladies of This Is Jane Wayne in collaboration with Gordon’s Pink Gin at the charming Rose Garden in Mitte. What was a wonderland of pink delicacies and elixirs for us can be the same for you on the 12th of September when The Pink Dinner will happen for the second time – and this time open to the public. Seats are limited so you better get your tickets quickly here.

Nobody from our team of iHeartBerlin ever planned to become a full-time blogger or to be working as an independent publisher in the beginning of the project. If we would have thought it through from the beginning we would have logically stepped away from doing anything like that. Essentially because it does not sound really promising.
First you put years of money, energy and time into a project that is freely available to everybody and has no financial outcome. Secondly, even if it turns out to become eventually a business like it happened for us, you never know if this business model will be outdated and irrelevant in a short period of time.
So why did we become an independent publisher in Berlin than? A city with no big brands or investors and no state-funding for digital publishers? The answers to this questions and also why we decided to collaborate with Flattr, a new digital startup supporting independent content creators all over the world is easy.

I remember 10 years ago when I started this blog there were no points of reference out there for me. Blogs were just something totally new and we all kind of didn’t know where things would go. I certainly didn’t expect that the blog would one day become the main thing for me taking over my personal and professional life completely. I’m so grateful that I followed my instincts and interests and just went for it. It was a difficult step for me back in 2011 to quit my day job and focus fully on iHeartBerlin, but these six years that came after were more fulfilled and happy than all the time before. I learned so much in these years, it’s a lot of trial and error, testing boundaries, starting over and jumping into the unknown. But the experience and knowledge I gained is something that I never want to miss.
When I became part of Blogfabrik 3 years ago I knew that this would be a place where this knowledge and experience would someday also be transferred to other people starting projects and working in digital media. With the new digital conference Content Creation Week where me and my fellow Blogfabrikanten offer workshops, lectures, keynotes, panel talks, the time has come for me to share with the next generation. From June 18-21 the second edition will take place and I will host a workshop about brand collaborations.
To give you a bit of a taste of my first CCW workshop from 2017 that was about long-lasting and successful content I have gathered my most cherished wisdoms of 10 years of blogging.

Already 10 years ago iHeartBerlin started as Berlin’s first city blog written in English. 10 years of telling stories and anecdotes, gathering information and guide you through the messy versatility of living in the capital. We’re basically the mother of all Berlin blogs. At this point, we’d love to claim that we were the only ones with such a clever idea, but of course, that is not the case. The competition never sleeps and Berlin blogs are numerous by now. Still, we’re all united in our love for this freakin’ city. So, let’s forget about competitiveness! We want to introduce you to our favorite colleagues.

Vietnamese people is Berlin’s largest East Asian community, comprising 1.16% of the total population. German or international friends usually immediately associate Vietnamese people with restaurants, nail salons, flower shops or convenience stores since the majority of those people operate in these businesses. However, the younger generations of Vietnamese in Berlin are actually a lively generation blended well into the German culture and the Berlin hippie lifestyle. They are also a very creative and artful cohort and the faces behind lots of successful businesses and entertaining activities in this cosmopolitan city. A look into the most outstanding and interesting projects by the Vietnamese youth in Berlin!

Fashion changes and beauty fades, but one thing that will always play an important role in our everyday life is food! No surprise that food blogs are on the rise, and my Instagram feed is full of amazing food creators. Yes, food photography, food styling, food art and #foodporn: we just can’t get enough of it. Maybe because pictures of food inspire us in the kitchen, encourage us to change up the menu and discover new, interesting and healthy recipes. It’s something that seems beneficial for our own heart, body and soul.
Becoming a food blogger might seem easy because, well, we all know how to make pancakes and a quiche. But that’s not completely right – there is a big difference between cooking for yourself and cooking for a bigger audience, like for the eyes of a thousand followers. Food blogging is a new form of art, and only true creators of real foodporn know: there is a lot of work and practice behind creating a meal that does not only taste good, but also visually appeals to the world on Facebook and Instagram. We asked three specialists of the German food blog community about their secret ingredients of foodporn. The answers and amazing photos after the jump…

In Berlin – not only the capital of Germany but also of freelancing – it’s actually really hard not to stumble upon some kind of coworking space in your daily life. There are so many options that it might seem a bit overwhelming at times. There’s the sofa at home (added bonus you can stay in your pjs), the sunny café around the corner and of course the membership working with like-minded people. Digital nomad, freelancer, self-employed – whatever you want to call it, chances are that you are looking for a place where you can work on your own, but socialize and synergize with like-minded people.
Depending on what exactly you are looking for it may be more about the space for you, or maybe more about the people. So while you have the choice, make sure you really find the spot that’s all you. Where you feel comfortable and get your stuff done at the same time. If you’re anything like me you may want to switch it up every now and then to get some variety into your week. If you haven’t found your hotspots yet, read on after the jump to see our list of recommended options.

After the huge success of previous editions artist Dorit Bialer has now released a brand new series of her Berliner in Box sets with typical Berlin characters as fun Playmobil versions. After previous versions gave us the punks at Kaisers and the Berghain girl her new series features brand new characters such as the street artist, the serial daters, the hipster drag queen, the fashion blogger, the real estate shark and the DJ. As a little extra there are also two new Berliner classics such as Christiane F. and Nina Hagen. Well, and as a personal treat there is also a version of ME! Yes, you read that one right, I have been turned into a Playmobil character too.
The playsets are once again filled up with lots of little details and witty description texts on the boxes that poke fun at all of the stereotypes. It’s a wonderfully creative continuation of the series and brings the whole concept into the current time. If you like these amazing sets you can also have your own custom You in a Box set made by Dorit, it’s also a great and original gift idea for Christmas!

Tomorrow it’s finally time for the next SKYY VODKA SWAP MARKET. The big charity swapping party is happening now for the 7th time and this year they have a new location at the historical Café Moskau. Bodi Bill will be DJ, along with Alina and Andi from Frida Gold and DJ Noema. At the swap market you will not only find really cool vintage pieces (I hear this year they got the best submissions ever) but also brand new designer clothes by labels such as JULIAANDBEN, Esther Perbandt, Von Bardonitz, Franzius, Boessert/Schorn, The Shit, Michalsky, Laurèl, Guido Maria Kretschmer and many more. Also for the first time 12 bloggers (including myself) have donated accessories, vintage or new designer clothes for a good cause, as all proceeds of the evening will be donated to the charity organisation Berliner Aids-Hilfe e.V. After the jump you’ll find a preview selection of the designer clothes and all the blogger donations.
