Next week on Wednesday the brand new Berlin Alternative Fashion Week launches its first edition with a colorful program of parties, shows, talks and a designer market. After several years of doing events during the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and the German Press Days we were of course excited about another opportunity to get our hands in the pie so we decided to host a new event during this new Fashion Week.
It is something that we meant to do for a long time but never came around to do it: Turn our Cinéma de Mode online column that we featured here on iHeartBerlin.de for many years before moving over to our partner Two For Fashion into a live event in a real cinema. So we asked our friends from the Berlin Fashion Film Festival to contribute some films, as well as the designers of the Berlin Alternative Fashion Week and mixed it with our own selection of our favorite films of the new genre and the result is going to be an entertaining program of fashionable short films and videos featuring Hollywood stars such as Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Walken for your viewing pleasure. Together with our friends from Two For Fashion we will invite you into the cinema of the former culturual institute of Czechoslowakia at Leizpziger Str. 60 (entrance Jerusalemer Str.) on Thursday October 2nd at 20h to enjoy our films of the Cinéma de Mode.

In today’s Cinéma de Mode we have the prelude to artist Gabriel Shalom‘s new project Faces of N., an incredible video which questions the multiplicity of identity and the way clothes express our different personalities. The two-minute prelude portrays Nicole Roscher from the fashion label Von Bardonitz in her personal wardrobe dressing in front of a three-paneled mirror, which reflects a visual counterpoint of images of the different outfits. Today, our Cinéma de Mode brings to you the first ever & Other Stories‘s fashion film, Rendez-vous & Other Stories, a humoristic and fun short directed by Los-Angeles based filmmaker Wendy McColm. The film is a satirical story which confronts the cliché portrayal of female characters within the fashion genre by capturing the tormented soul of self-indulgent bohemian French actress and blogger Jeanne Damas who cannot decide which clothes from the & Other Stories’ summer collection to wear. In the latest episode of our Cinéma de Mode we have the interactive, motion-touch short film Mine directed by Tell No One and commissioned by Nowness. The two-minute magical fashion film stars five contemporary dancers from London’s Sadler’s Wells Theater engaging in a beautiful choreography by Paolo Mangiola. In today’s Cinéma de Mode we have the latest episode of i-D Magazine‘s series More Than a Model, which stars 17-year-old sporty schoolgirl and supermodel Rosie Tapner in the beautiful Berkshire countryside. The brilliant film directed by French collective AB/CD/CD and styled by Julia Sarr-Jamois, shows an extremely skilled Rosie playing Lacross in a Neil Barrett jumper, sprinting after the ball in a Nike look, hopping onto her horse in Gucci jodhpurs, and finally sitting down for tea in a Chanel twinset. The first Cinéma de Mode of the new year brings to you the incredibly beautiful fashion film Immortal, a Sorapol production directed by Conor Gorman. The film features the Autumn/Winter 2013/14 collection of Bangkok-born designer Sorapol Chawaphatnakuland in collaboration with British artist Daniel Lismore, which is an elegant mix of dramatic couture creations and equally stunning ready-to-wear pieces. The story behind the designs is based on a young girl who was given to a Chinese Emperor, and then travelled across the Asian continent to her final destination, collecting treasures as she goes to overcome the feelings of delusion and imprisonment. The mini movie stars Jacques Naude and Noot Seear as a couple working out where their relationship is going and seeking refuge in the cabin in Maine where their love first began. The movie captures not only their genuine and passionate love but it also explores the beautiful bohemian style of the new collection, including cold-weather sweaters, long skirts, ripped jeans, paisley scarves and floppy hats.
