This weekend a very special event for food lovers is happening here in Berlin: The Original Way – Coke Food Festival is taking place on Saturday and Sunday at Alte Münze in Mitte. Bringing together the best flavors from around the world prepared by local restaurant owners the festival is set out to be true culinary highlight you shouldn’t miss.
Last year Coke started their new web series The Original Way that portraits the most interesting restaurant owners from Germany that have a unique story and cook really original dishes from their home countries. From Berlin, the web series dedicated episodes to Nauta, Chutnify, Linos BBQ, Standard Pizza and Kanaan which are all really amazing places with great food and an inspiring backstory. The show recently started their second season after the first one last year was such a success. To give people the opportunity to experience the spirit of the series live they came up with the Coke Food Festival that features some of the protagonists of the show.

On the 3rd of October Germany will be celebrating the anniversary of its re-unification. Wait, didn’t we do that last year with the balloons and all? No, that was the anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall which happened about one year before the actual re-unification of Germany. So as you can imagine this is a pretty special day for us here, especially for those who were born in the time when the country was still separated.
As in previous years the “Tag der Deutschen Einheit” will be celebrated with a big street festival at the Brandenburger Gate that is free for everyone to join.
Since the anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall we have been publishing a lot of features about Berlin’s pre- and post-wall history here on the blog. This has been a very educative process for us as we learned so many things about the city that we live in that we didn’t know before. For the anniversary of the re-unification of Germany we want to give you another history lesson by collecting 25 highlights of the united Germany. We picked both big and small happenings, personal and general events that were important to us. Join us on a trip down memory lane after the jump. For more of those moments come to Brandenburger Tor on October the 3rd!

Hollywood actor and all-round talent James Franco thinks Berlin is really sexy. That’s why he likes to come here and already had two solo art exhibitions here at Perez Projects. But he also thinks your girlfriend is sexy. And he would like to tell her that in person through a nation-wide campaign by Coke Light. I think your girlfriend might like this so have a look after the jump what he has to say to her.

For some reason me an my fellow five co-authors never managed to be in one place at one time with someone to take a photo of the whole team. Shame! But with today’s delivery in the mail I was finally able to do an iHeartBerlin group photo – reenacted with customized Coke cans. So this is a little shout-out to my colleagues and a thank you for all your great work over the years. I appreciate you being a part of this!
By the way, there are only 3 days left to customize your own Coke bottle with your own or your friends’ name. The idea is so simple, but sweet. Enjoy!

One of the most iconic happenings in Berlin is definately the Bearpit Karaoke that is run by Joe Hatchiban on Sundays in the public arena in the center of the Mauerpark. It’s the one thing that everyone will alway recommend you to go to when visiting Berlin. Hundreds of people will gather around the circle stage and applaud everyone courageous enough to sing in front of so many people. And you don’t have to be afraid to fail, because no matter how your performance turns out to be, people will applaud for you like you are some kind of rockstar. And it’s that magical moment when suddenly one inconspicuous looking performer starts to sing so amazingly impressive that the whole crowd goes mute in awe that makes this Karaoke session so special and unforgottable. Of course the applause for those kind of performers will be explosive.
On the third of October you will get the chance to experience the Bearpit Karaoke on an even bigger stage. Joe got invited to join the Coke Festival of Happiness at Brandenburger Tor on the anniversary day of the reunification of Germany. This one is going to be his biggest Karaoke show ever and the performers will sing in front of thousands of people. That’s going to be one hell of a thrill! After the jump we have a little documentary for you about Joe Hatchiban and his Karaoke show. Meet you at the Brandenburger Tor stage on Thursday!

The whole country is in the EM fever and this time the football madness doesn’t even make an exceptions for those who are normally not very interested in the game. We are of course also effected by the fever. Coca Cola was so kind as to invite us to their special public screening area at Brandenburger Tor for the Germany:Portugal game on Saturday. While the masses of fans were going crazy with their flags, balloons, colorful make-up and big wigs we enjoyed the game with Coke and Würstchen. Some impressions from the massive public viewing after the jump.
