It’s cold in Berlin. So, I’m dancing. I’m dancing more than I do in summer. Does that sound weird to you? It’s solely logical, and here’s why:
Generally, we never really stop raving here – because, well, we can. When the first leaves fall, however, and folks get out their army coats and Doc Martens, it drives me onto dance floors all the more. Am I missing the rain outside when I forgot my rain jacket, again? Am I missing freezing on the streets, tucked in my coat, while sweating in the metro, peeling off all the layers? So, when I’m not outside, what am I missing out on?

With the cold and wet days we’ve just experienced one thing is for sure: Winter is coming. What am I saying it’s already here! The heatings are running, and we have to face it: We will all have to suffer through months of this now. Well, at least the ones among us that don’t escape to a warm island like scared chicken! The cold season in Berlin has only just begun and if you haven’t lost your mind yet, you could still lose it in the weeks to come, even though sometimes we get thrown a bone or two with a few rays of sunshine here and there.
For those of you who want to maintain their sanity in the Winter in Berlin our Blogfabrik colleague Sophia Halamoda, who also brought as the famous Berghain, Bürgeramt and Real Berliner comics, has created a fantastic comic: A Winter Survival Guide that also explains a lot of the secrets of the grey and cold seasons and how the real Berliner deal with them.
This comic, along with a whole lot of unpublished new material is part of the new book “Like A Berliner” – a collaboration of Sophia and us. You can order it here in our webshop.

It’s officially Spring now, but you wouldn’t quite know it based on the weather. The first days of spring still show temperatures around 5C. Things do look to change soon, but it’s dangerous for us to get our hopes up.
We want to believe. We want the sun to arrive and never leave us. But haven’t we been fooled in the past? Hasn’t the winter chill lasted well into April?
Regardless, we can still hope for our winter habits to disappear soon enough, to start going out more, to come out of hibernation. More and more, we can turn those Facebook event statuses from “interested” to “going.” We can look forward to relying less on every club’s coat check, for those piles of coats and scarves in every bar to slowly melt away.
Enjoy the last of those cozy nights in! The movies on your laptop with your winter cuff! Of course you can still enjoy your apartment in the warmer weather, but it won’t be nearly as appealing. Now is the time to start saying goodbye to the habits of the cold…
