I am a huge fan of creatively wrapped Christmas presents as I have previously proven with our Christmas wrapping guide. Of course, I was super excited to hear about the new Christmas special by Bikini Berlin that is all about artfully decorated presents. Following their tradition of previous seasons, they have once again installed a beautiful big wrapping station in the middle of the concept shopping mall where you can have your presents wrapped or get crafty and wrap them yourselves.

But it wouldn’t be Bikini Berlin if this would be some ordinary type of wrapping station. Once again they invited a local artist to not only design the special edition wrapping papers but also create an entire photo set that transforms the designs from the papers into a big colorful world to step into and take pictures in.

RE: KONSTRUKT by Jan Herdlicka – Dissecting Berlin

RE: KONSTRUKT by Jan Herdlicka – Dissecting Berlin

Berlin-based photo artist Jan Herdlicka who we previously featured with his mysterious and dark photo series and who was also one of the artists of our WE ARE BERLIN photo exhibition just came out with a stunning new project! We already discovered his new series RE: KUNSTRUKT yesterday on Finding Berlin and now we are happy to be able to present it to you here as well.

His five beautiful collages show iconic architectural elements of Berlin reshaped and compiled together like abstract tree sculptures. They show the contrast of the human-made urban concrete structures that we surround ourselves with in our city lives and natural forms that might be completely forgotten in future generations. In a way this is a vision of how humanity might imagine “nature” in a time where they don’t have a chance to actually see it for real anymore. The retro-futuristic aesthetic of the pieces makes it even more haunting. These would make such brilliant additions to the current Radikal Modern exhibition about Berlin’s architectural boom in the 50-90s at Berlinische Galerie. Enjoy the series RE: KONSTRUKT after the jump.

This city has many communities of different nations from all over the world that all live together here mixing their cultures into the big juicy cocktail that is Berlin. One of these many communities are Russian artists living in Berlin. I think they are fairly quiet compared to other nationalities, but with the upcoming Russian Contemporary Art Week making some noise in the city.

The RCAW is taking place in 3 galleries which are The Ballery in Schönenberg that is showcasing the work of 3 highlighted artist, the LemoArt Gallery in Prenzlauer Berg that is showing a bigger selection of younger Russian talents and finally a project by UdK students presented at Panke. The whole thing gets kicked off this Friday (May 15, 2015) with the opening reception of the main exhibition at The Ballery that shows the amazing work of Katerina Belkina, Igor Skaletsky, and Vera Veritas Kochubey. On May 29th the second part of the RCAW starts at The Ballery with additional artists in their line-up. We have a little preview of that after the jump.
