On Friday the Jägermeister Wirtshaustour made a stop in Berlin at the new club Loftus Hall with live gigs by Eskimo Callboy and Tek-One as well as a crazy DJ set by Dumme Jungs. The night started all social and cosy in the “Wirtshaus” lounge with Jägi drinks, card games, jenga and kicker. The first live act Eskimo Callboy then turned all the cosiness into a storm with their hefty harcore electro. I went to the front for a bit to take photos but quickly had to retreat in fear for my camera and my health, as these crazy kids were going wild. The second concert of Tek-One was equally powerful with their massive dubstep sounds. The air was practically on fire! Enjoy our animated impressions on 2 pages after the click!

On Tuesday the awesome NYC based band Light Asylum was having a live gig at Flamingo. I only knew a few songs from the band before, but the concert really blew me away! You should definately check out their work. After the jump you can see some impressions of the concert and the party at Flamingo with DJ sets by Planningtorock and Marius Funk. I am particularily proud of the photo above which I took in the infamous Flamingo mirror hallway.

A few weeks ago we were invited by tape.tv to join the 100th edition of their series of rooftop concerts. For the special anniversary they invited the wonderful Florence & The Machine to perform a few of her songs from her great new album Ceremonials on the rooftop of the Kater Holzig. What a magnificent afternoon this was!! Now the video of the concert was finally released. Have a look at it after the jump!

An awesome big art exhibition open up until late? A night of concerts with amazing video projections? A quirky and fun art and photo installation and performance? And a big party on top of all that? What sounds like a whole schedule of events was actually all coming together at Berlinische Galerie last Saturday at the Kunstnacht11 with concerts by Jahcoozi and Creep as well as a performance by Crystal Mafia. After the jump you’ll find some impressions of the night.

With the release of the new album Night of Hunters and tonight’s concert at Tempodrom I have been talking about Tori Amos quite a lot recently. Many times I got the following comment of people: “Yeah, heard of her, but what does she actually do?” This was then followed by me with an offended look and an awkward moment of screeching silence. Well, what do you reckon does one of the greatest songwriters, singers and piano players of the last 25 years do? Huh? Just guess!
Tori has never been a very commercial musician, but with THAT many albums and THAT many songs she wrote there must have been at least ONE that you came across at some point, no? Ok. Well, if you still can’t think of a single melody you definately need a bit of education here. I have collected some of her more popular songs for you to have a listen. At this occasion I noticed that she actually made some pretty damn cool music videos back in the day. Have a look! And then see you at the concert later tonight…

from Iron
Joann Lemoine can only be called a Jack of all trades. He is a director, an illustrator, a photographer, a singer and a songwriter. Of course he’s exceptionally good at all of these professions. He probably is also an excellent cook, speaks 5 languages, is a great sportsman and fantastic in bed. So basically you can only hate him.
His latest trick is his new music persona Woodkid. He released an EP and a breathtaking video to his massive song Iron earlier this summer. Within shortest time he had the whole internet focused on him and his stunning video. You can see it along a photo of his handsome self after the jump. You can see him live this Sunday at Festsaal Kreuzberg (Seen a video of his live qualities, of course he is brilliant, Jesus Christ…)

Slagsmålsklubben
After kicking off in Berlin back in Febuary and touring through seven other cities during the past months the Jägermeister Wirtshaustour is finally reaching the proximity of Berlin again with their next gig in Leipzig on October 6, which is practically around the corner. The “Kneipe” of choice this time is the Wirtshaus am Monarchenhügel. Apart from some traditional pub games of darts, pool and table soccer you will also be entertained by live performances of DJ-zombie Kavinsky and Swedish electro-sextette Slagsmålsklubben. As the entrance is limited you should make sure to sign up for the guestlist here quickly. After the jump you’ll get some music impressions of the band and a teaser video for the event.

Wow. I am sitting here still speachless after hearing the brand new Tori Amos record Night of Hunters that will be released through Deutsche Grammophon on September 16th 2011. With a cover so commercially looking I totally didn’t expect this. I think it’s the most impressive album she has done in a long time. Not that her other records are bad. I have love for every single one of them. But there are the ones that I love a little less such as The Beekeeper or Abnormally Attracted To Sin and the ones I love a little more like From The Choirgirl Hotel or Scarlett’s Walk. But Night of Hunters has quickly made it to the top of my list! Some more details of the album and more cheasy press photos after the jump.

Last weekend Apparatjik finished their live performances at the Neue Nationalgalerie. During their stay the Apparatjik members Magne Furuholmen ( of the Norwegan pop band A-ha ) and Martin Terefethey also made a film while discovering the city in a glitzy discoball smart. More info, pictures of the show and the film after the jump:

Bodi Bill are one of the few Berlin-based bands that I would refer to as local heroes. In fact their following here is so strong that they had to add two extra shows to their concert on April 28 at Lido. (The one on April 26 is the only one you can still get tickets for.)
The first Bodi Bill song I ever consciously listened to was Hotel, the preview track of their new album What?. It tickled a lot of my nerves and I was more then eager to hear the rest of the record. And I was not disappointed! It’s a bit hard to describe the music. Electro indie pop sounds not cool enough for this band. But it definately describes the elements that you will find in their music. Hotel for me is definately one of the strongest songs on the record, but my favoriteby far is the closing track Friends, an absolute stunner of a song!
After the jump you can see the beautiful video to the quirky new single Brand New Carpet. What? comes out on March 18th 2011, which is… today! Hurrah!
