Over the last ten years of doing iHeartBerlin, we’ve already had a couple of occasions where we could meet some of our readers. This experience of encountering somebody in person who is following you online is a really rewarding experience for us.
Yesterday, together with the Staatsoper Berlin, we had the chance to share a very special picnic with 6 of our readers and us for the occasion of Staatsoper für Alle – a free live concert next to the opera at Bebelplatz. It was a great way to enjoy wonderful highlights of classical music and spend time with our readers up close.
In the middle of an ocean of little blankets and foldable chairs, we prepared a cute little picnic with lots of gourmet delicacies. Of course, we could not miss the two most important ingredients if you wanna have a real brunch: Cupcakes and sparkling wine.

I’ve always had a sweet tooth. Ever since I was a little kid hanging in my parents’ grocery shop, I’d covertly fill up my pockets with candy. Not much changed. I mean, luckily I started financing the addiction on my own and the only thing I may occasionally steal is the show, but, despite strong human competition, my love affair with confectionery is still at the top of my most toxic relationships list. Basically, when I first saw the phrase “death by chocolate”, I felt like that’s what my gravestone is going to read. If you’re like me, or want to really impress a boy or girl with a tendency for sweet self-indulgence (there are many of us around here!), take them to one of those places:

Whether you’re in the mood for romance, showing friends around from out of town, or just collecting your own thoughts outdoors, it’s always a good idea to take a stroll through Berlin’s cosmopolitan wonder. And with the lovely sun shining, can you think of anything better?
Kreuzberg’s Schlesisches Tor might be the hardest U-Bahn station for non-natives to pronounce. It also happens to serve as a junction between three districts, all straddling the eastern intersection of the Spree and Landwehrkanal. This area is full of vibrant activity – how about a stroll around it?

Especially when we are overwhelmed with work, when something significant changes in our life, or when we simply leave our usual surroundings to a new place, this is when we notice our most valuable asset: time.
In Friedrichshain you have time to get lost, as well as time to find something you didn’t know you were looking for. It is a place for nostalgia, for living in the moment, but also for seeking the future. It is an unfinished place, where one of time’s most significant effects becomes very obvious: change.
You definitely notice that unfinished character just by walking down Warschauer Straße, seeing all the construction works, graffiti and improvised shops and galleries. It’s always in progress, always changing. But this is what makes it special, what makes all of Berlin special.
The new label Lilienthal Berlin wants to capture exactly this spirit with their brand new watch, representing the individualistic and unique character of the city that is always in between a state of tranquility and movement. The iconic design symbolizes both the diverse history, but also its colorful present and future with subliminal details and aesthetic quotes of the city. With the exchangeable leather wristbands and color options of the body and face, it is adaptable to its wearer as the city itself.
To celebrate the launch of today’s exclusive pre-sale of their first model – the Lilienthal Berlin L1, which comes in a limited edition of 1440, all designed in Berlin and manufactured in Germany – the label sent us on a 24h tour to explore our favorite places in Berlin. We took the watch with us on our way through Friedrichshain, always with the time on our side. Enjoy our highlights after the jump!

Last Thursday we celebrated our 3rd anniversary over the rooftops of the city at La Mansarde enjoying a wonderful menu that featured Barbarie duck and filled Zucchini flowers. Yummie! And as a special treat we had the delicious cupcakes by our Cupcake Lady Dawn.
It was once again a great experience to meet some of our readers and I want to say thank you to all of you that came for making this a lovely evening. We will do this again soon! I also want to say thanks to my co-authors Suz, C.R. and Jens, as well as all the other authors who have contributed to our blog. More impressions of the evening as well as the great dinner after the jump.

To the misfortune of our hips this store is right next to our Friedrichshain headquarter. So everytime we leave or come home we have to pass by these little sinners. And they are hard to resist. I’m talking about cupcakes – made and served by this lovely lady (photo above). They have them in a variety of flavors from chocolate to coconut, carrot and vanilla with all sorts of toppings. Delicious! They even have vegan and gluten-free ones. In their charming little shop they serve not only cupcakes but also coffee and Chai tea and other types of delicious cakes such as cheesecake, brownies and banana.
We heart cupcakes! More infos and pictures after the jump!
