A new, exceptionally nice speakeasy bar called ROOK opened a few weeks ago in a place where you, dear readers, would probably least expect it: in an old water tower in Cologne. Yes, you’ve read it right – it’s not about Berlin today, but about a thing that we in Berlin are especially crazy about: secret bars in hidden locations.
In a world of the Internet and smartphones, where all information is constantly accessible, the concept of speakeasy bars is more attractive than ever. It’s no wonder, since nothing tastes sweeter than a secret that you only share with a few people. We’ve known that this rule applies to the club and bar scene for ages.
That’s why it’s totally understandable that also the ROOK team decided in favor of such an idea. A few months ago, Luisa und Rike entered the Shape Your City competition organized by the international premium beer brand Heineken with their own bar concept. They managed to win over the Jury, composed of, among others, the restaurateurs Philipp Treudt and Tobias Mintert, as well as our Berlin blogger-colleagues from Dandy Diary. ROOK is the result of a cooperation with Heineken and celebrated its opening on the 18th November 2016. This coming Friday, the Dandy Diary members of the jury are going to throw a party in the location that they’ve helped to single out. More about that later in the text!

The countdown has begun: In just a few days – from September 2nd till 4th to be exact – the new Bread&Butter by Zalando is happening at Arena Berlin. The consumer trend show has the theme “NOW” this year and will be celebrating what is hot in fashion, music and food. Have a look at the program and line-up now to get an idea.
The Bread&Butter has quite a long and diverse history. It started off in Cologne in 2003, but then moved to Berlin and later Barcelona for a while where it rose to international fame, before returning to Berlin to become one of the major events of Berlin Fashion Week. But as many of you have probably noticed it stopped happening a couple of seasons ago. But this was not the end, it was a necessary period of transition and reinvention. Now it’s back, rising like a phoenix from the ashes and everything is different! What happened? And why should we care? Here’s the break-down..

With a couple of brand new, awesome vegan restaurants and cafes that opened in Berlin recently, we thought it was about time to put together a new vegan guide for Berlin. Veganism is probably the biggest “trend” in gastronomy right now, though it is inaccurate to consider it a trend, I like to call it an “awakening”. I think with all the information we have nowadays about industrially produced food and its effect on the ecosystem and on our health, it is only a natural reaction that people start to change their consumption and eating habits. I personally really like vegan cooking, mainly because it requires certain creativity that makes us break out of our decade long food habits of what goes with what and how you prepare certain things. Vegan dishes, no matter if they are simple or elaborate, open up another world of taste experiences and I think that’s really exciting for everyone’s palate. Enjoy our selection of the most interesting vegan restaurants and cafes in Berlin.

The boys from Dandy Diary did it again: They hosted one of the biggest Berlin Fashion Week parties of the season. But something was different this season: For the first time their party wasn’t open to the public as usual. This was pretty much a blow for all the fans and fashion enthusiast for whom the Dandy Diary party was one of the few opportunity to take part in the Fashion Week circus without needing an exclusive invitation. This seems to have been a trend this season in general. Never has our BFW guide of public events been so small as this season. Is Berlin Fashion Week starting to become more exclusive? And if so, why now? Well, we for our part have always appreciated all the events that welcomed everyone regardless of their credentials. In the end the more exclusive events were not even much more interesting, the fun took place somewhere else… After the jump we have some impressions from the Dandy Diary party shot by our girl Alicia. Enjoy…

Sometimes less is more. That’s probably what TV host Joko Winterscheidt thought to himself when he designed the T-Shirt for the new AXE Black with his label German Garment. The result couldn’t be more minimalistic, timeless and understated: A clean-cut, simply black T-Shirt. Joko Says about the shirt: “For me understatement means to focus on the basics. Fashion should underline the personality, not cover it up. With our version of the black shirt you are showing style without exaggeration.” The AXE BLACK SHIRT will be available in a limited edition starting on April 1, 2015. If you buy three products from the new AXE Black line you can order one of these shirts for free.
To celebrate the launch of this collaboration Joko and AXE got together with our fellow bloggers from Dandy Diary to organize an exclusive release party here in Berlin this Tuesday, on March 31, 2015. The Dandy boys will be DJing along with Quid Haden and there is going to be a secret main act that we really had to swear to keep secret, but I can tell you that much, it’s a BIG deal. We have a pair of tickets for you to win after the jump!

Like every season I HEART BERLIN is bringing you the ultimate Berlin Fashion Week Guide with all the notable events and parties with a special focus on emmerging talents and avant-garde designers. The majority of the events in this guide are public or have an open registration so that all of you fashion fans can join regardless of your professional credentials. Enjoy!
This season we would like to give a shout-out to a couple of designers that will be doing their first shows in the official Mercedes-Benz tent, as well as in surprising off-schedule locations. We are looking forward to see our first show of one of our Berlin favorites SADAK, of course the show of our dear friend Esther Perbandt, the man who is probably the buzziest name in the local fashion scene right now and who will be the first one to show inside of Berghain: Bobby Kolade, and we are also excited to see the new collection of Vektor. For all the fashion professionals we recommend all of these mentioned shows, so make sure to get accreditation for them. Our listing of public events you can find below.
For more guidance at Berlin Fashion Week we also recommend you to download our iPhone App Friendly Berlin and check out the routes “Berlin Designers” and “Fashionable Berlin”.

Berlin is certainly a shopping paradise for vintage fashion or unconventional clothing. Still there was a lack of a good retailer offering the whole range of men’s fashion. This changed for good, thanks to the opening of menswear retailer Wormland. Inside the newly opened Mall of Berlin Wormland offers over three floors of different menswear styles. Browsing through the shop on the opening night we met up with really nice people like the guys from Dandy Diary. Also we found some fashion items from our favorite designers like Julian Zigerli that we would love to call our own. And what makes the shopping experience a sexy time too: Hot eye candy Tony Ward is presented all over the shop since he is the model from their latest campaign. Some impressions of the opening night for you after the jump.
